I've been playing the game almost every day since the last week of the Season of the Haunted, after finishing the Witch Queen campaign and all of the raids I got invested in the story and did a lot of reading. The Lightfall campaign was very fun to play and I don't really understand the hate around it. I think the biggest letdown for players --spoilers ahead-- is knowing that we lost but not understanding specifically HOW without doing a lot of research to make guesses. I didn't have a problem with it because the focus of the campaign was clearly setting up Calus as the BEBG and it delivered. The veil was described enough for us to know it's bad if a creation of light, the Radial Mast or otherwise, interacts with it then it will link with the traveler, and the Witness will be closer to the Final Shape. A part of the story I appreciated was Nimbus and Osiris bonding over their "single life" experience, since the guardian really can't relate. I can't wait to see where the story goes in the following seasons and the next expansions!
