Throwing out my opinion here. I know it’s not worth much, but I’ve put some thought this. The new game mode is not a good fit for Iron Banner. I feel like Iron Banner should be a game mode where you can flex some skill, outshoot the opponent, and cap zones/ignition. This new mode promotes camping, bubbles/wells, and barricades everywhere. When the cabal ball drops, the turrets don’t stand a chance against 12 players, and they don’t do enough damage to even matter. 6 seconds and they’re off the field. With bubbles and wells being the shortest super cooldowns in the game, a titan can easily wait for the other team to drop the turrets, run in, and bubble. It makes him and his team nigh invincible for at least the first capture. Maybe a blade barrage or a nova bomb, but that’s a player who’s popping off during the opening minutes of the match.
Pair all of this with removing quickplay while IB is here, and it’s forcing players to endure a poorly designed and implemented game mode. I mainly play pvp. I’m not always looking to play comp and the 3v3 rift mode in labs is no good. So now I’m stuck having to endure IB if I want to play 6’s. It doesn’t even tell you kills at the end of the match and the scoring system seems arbitrary, as I’ve had a couple of close games we won where our “top player” did worse than half the opposing team on the score board because the points make no sense. I can’t even get the validation of knowing I played well, even if I didn’t stand on every point for every capture.
I doubt I’d be making this post if they kept quickplay active while IB was around. That way I could pop in, get my pinnacles, and dip back to a game mode that still has many flaws, but at least seems to reward actual gameplay, not who can bubble a point the fastest.
