Destiny is a loot based game without enough loot.

TL:DR - the title -- and to the bungie staff...more loot for us means more money for you. Destiny has a severe loot problem, it makes a vast majority of the game not worth playing. All of the core playlist activities suffer from the fact that they have no loot worth farming, or they have loot that is worth farming but the RNG is so prohibitive that there are plenty of easier options to pursue instead...(looking at you "the bottom dollar") Some changes that could improve the loot situation, thereby stimulating the player base to invest more time and money into the core activities. making them more fun, and more profitable for bungie. 1. Loot RNG - the trials loot system should be the new standard, all playlist activities should be structured in this way. random drops for playing, better drops for winning, best drops for win streaks, and a focusing option for grinding loot. 2. Loot Variety - the three main core playlists have armor sets that look exactly the same, featuring low stats and a very plain look. these playlists being the main activity for the Free to Play player base is no excuse to neglect them...it shows a lack of foresight and a lack of commitment to maintaining the game...Each of the playlists should go back to featuring unique armor sets, and what's more they should get new armor sets seasonally. On top of that, having a chance to focus these armor pieces for high stats would provide ALL players (free and paid) a reason to grind these activities more frequently. Additionally, stats and fashion are nice but we all know that its guns that drive the gameplay of destiny. the playlists need a larger variety of guns to play with as well as adept versions. this will draw not only more players back to the core activities but stimulate more free players to pay for the game. the lack of foresight is this: more free to play players would pay for the game if they had more loot incentive to see what they are missing. not having good loot in the core activities just makes people not want to play, it doesn't make people pay for more. it shows a lack of commitment to maintaining the game for the paying player base because you are letting the main aspects of the game stagnate in favor of "new" cheaply made content that you expect us to play instead. my main gripe is this, the festival of the lost this year is basically not worth playing at all. the only rewards are a shader and a sparrow...and a pulse rifle that is already irrelevant due to bad stats and perks...why would I waste my time farming a million lost sectors (that I have already played a million times) when I could just play some nightfall's or raids for better loot? if you are going to spend the overhead on development time for these events, then you need to go "full commit" in order to stimulate the player base to actually play and potentially spend even more money on them. potentials for eververse money is simple. new armor for each playlist means more money spent on transmog. new weapons means you can sell ornaments for adept weapons from the playlists. more players enjoying the loot means more FTP players converting into paid players. more people enjoying and grinding the core playlists means not needing to waste the overhead on cheaply made events that no one wants to play anyways. support the core game and the rest will fall into place.

  • Cayde-6 once said there will be a ton of loot, Bungie murdered him and the loot. Xur had some cool or rare things for sale, bungie has nerfed most exotics though, so 90% of what he has is mediocre as an exotic but has good stats for armor. Just make it so that the exotic engram has a 5% chance to be any exotic in game just to spice up Xur's loot. Maybe also give PVP, Gambit, and Strikes entire weapon loadouts unique to each game-type but with separate weapon archetypes: i.e. strike pulse rifle is a 450 4-burst, pvp is a 340, gambit is a 390... (one rocket launcher, one Heavy GL, one sword, one auto, one smg, one scout, one pulse, one sniper, one shotgun/FR per game type) Just an idea.

  • I think that patrol/destination activities like public events,high value targets and normal lost sectors need a loot overhaul in general.I'm not saying that they need pinnicle,powerful or unique loot but maybe add more legendary weapons to the world loot pool then increase the drop rate from these activities to something like 40%(higher for heroic public events) to atleast make them feel somewhat more rewarding instead of just glimmer,planetry rescources and the occasional blue item considering that most of the time when an expansion launches with a new destination we get a new public event on that destination.

    • The game absolutely pisses loot out at us like no tomorrow. A lot of newer gear being pretty farmable. The way the game is setup now is you play whatever you want to earn umbrals and focus them into whatever you’re looking for which isn’t even an argument as to that being the best way to hunt loot with so many things to chase. Now the strike and crucible drops or gambits ones yeah pretty unobtainable, I have a absolutely perfect frozen orbit for pve and a 4/5 stars and shadow I got super lucky with but my friend -blam!- his crucible rank like 6 times in a couple weeks not long ago didn’t get a single stars and shadows to drop….. not even just drop but man the perk pool on playlist guns is insane. Would be nice if they just dropped every completion at this point

      • Thanks for this post. We will be adding back some trash weapon, garbage archetype that barely anyone used during year 1, with an ugly skin so it can go directly into your vault that has barely any space in it. Your complaints have been answered.

        • I don't like pvp so I find the pve to not motivate me. I don't like instanced things like expunge at all. I wish the open world areas were big and had a lot of player engagment and dynamic things going on. I wish we could find more stuff in open world to use. Resources to craft? Currencies? Collectibles? Cosmetics? It's just grab the same bounties from banshee and go to the same areas and kill the same spawns year after year.

        • You have to understand making games is really hard! Like really hard! I know bungie is a game developer and is very successful. You would think they know how to put loot in a game but you have to understand it is soooooooo hard. Like insanely hard. It's just so much easier repainting guns and slapping a different names on them. They also tried taking your loot away and making you grind for them again. I mean if you expected cool new stuff to grind for you have to understand that is harddddd. But.... if you pay the low low price of $9.99 you can get a cool shader from eververse. That's pretty cool loot! It will also fund future events! And the cool thing is! You don't even need to participate in those events! you just go over to the eververse store and buy your rewards!!!

              There's plenty of loot problem is 90% (thats being generous) of the time it's trashcan rolls that drop on weapons or really low stat armor rolls But than when we get everything.. what do we do? What do you do? I'm still searching for stasis affinity pieces to masterwork since I have a full void arc & solar for my warlock. I have a full set for my titan & hunter as well with other high stat pieces masterworked just because I'm forced to do so in order to progress vendor ranks & I can't do that if I'm full on prisms & shards. Not even gunna get started on masterworking exotic gear that we need multiple copies of (or at least I do for the builds I would like to make)

            • There is a decent amount of loot each season, but only loot that is slightly better/stronger really matters to 95% of the players, and most new guns are either bad or side grades. Do we really want to farm a gun for 20+ hours if it's just a strong? I don't. New perks sometimes compliment or makes new builds possible, but that's not enough reason for the average player to farm a new gun. I think quality/progression is more a problem than the quantity.

              • Yep....and been that way for four years. Joe Blackburn (current game director) finally admitted to this fact a few months ago in a blog about the direction that the game will go in the near future. Stated that Bungie is aggressively trying to hire new people to address this problem. The hiring is a strong step in the right direction. But I think the loot sytem and weapon systems also need to be overhauled in support of this. The current system just doesn't have enough depth to support the game being more generous. That is....the game cannot generate weapons in enough quantity AND VARIETY to support the game being more generous. Though I think you're being unfair by accusing them of a "lack of committment". There are a few issues that have to be considered. 1. This game wasn't designed for this. Vanilla D2 was designed to play like a campaign shooter with fixed weapon rolls, and cosmetic, fixed stat armor. Bungie has had to BUILD the current loot system from scratch....while we continued to play the game every day. 2. Bungie broke away from Activision 2.5 years ago. With that break away they lost access to considerable amounts of money that Activision was giving Bungie to develop new content....and lost access to TWO satellite studios and 400 employees that were making content for Forsaken. (In short, Bungie lost their publisher...their money....and ONE THIRD of the workforce that created Forsaken. 3. So...for a year after Forsaken...Bungie was in survival mode. Trying to figure out how they were going to survive as a company....and how Destiny was going to survive as a franchise. 4. THEN just as they were starting to feel confident that they would survive....COVID hit...and the Seattle-area (Bellevue, WA ...Bungie HQ) was one of the earliest places hit in the US, and one of the first to go into lockdown. Bungie has been aggressively hiring....but because of COVID they've stated that they have large numbers of people working for them now who have **never** actually set foot inside the HQ. They've basically been working from home now for nearly 2 years. So the game certainly has shortcomings that still need to be addressed. But what Bungie has managed to pull off since Covid hit is pretty remarkable.

                  • I agree 100%! I posted about how stale the loot is several times and posted some ideas. Here is a quote from Smith and Noseworthy regarding Destiny’s future from 2019, so where is what they promised? What happened? Destiny general manager Mark Noseworthy added that "we've been worried about that term [MMO] for a long time; we've shied away from it. It comes with a lot of baggage. Does that mean it's a subscription game? Do you have to play with a mouse and keyboard? But this is one of those things where, we're on our own now, and it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, so it's a duck. We can accept that this is what the game is." "And when we say MMO, we don't mean subscriptions," Smith said. "We mean two things. The first part, and where we're lacking right but it's been getting better since Forsaken, is improving the RPG." [/i][/u] Where is the “deeper build customization to make my monster killing machine my own?” If its armor synthesis that is a bit of a stretch considering that is based off the loot pool. They want to be an MMO, but the loot does not reflect that. The loot pool needs to vastly increase with a massive overhaul. The loot is riddled with duplicates and no unique loot. Bungie creates awesome worlds and offers no incentive or reward to explore those worlds. How about a completely new vast loot pool that can be found in random hidden caches on planets?                   • Maybe I’m wrong, but everywhere I look, Destiny 2 is classified as a First Person Shooter. Not a MMO, Not a Looter-Shooter. Straight up fist person shooter. Now we all know that in practice, the loot is the mechanic with which we advance light levels up to the season hard cap. So to be fair, I’d call it a Shooter-trash-looter at best. Primarily because 97.5% of everything that drops is trash anyway and gets dismantled. The loot construct is a myth. It’s not ‘loot’,…they’re ‘door-prizes’ at best. It’s like a carnival,…step up, no waiting, $1 gets you three softballs to chuck downrange while you’re running strikes,…after you’ve throw all three you get a prize. Loot,…what a joke. And it’s a Dad-joke at that, it makes you cringe more than laugh.

It's also the same company that suggested they want to sunset loot every year after that, but then turned 180 degrees and reversed it. Now, it's the same company that is giving you loot that are seven years old from recycled content of years ago. But then keeps asking you to throw money at the screen.                     • When we are able to build the weapons we really want to use by cross-breeding archetypes and perks in a Destiny-type universe, that's the game we will play for ever and ever and ever an ever. Destiny 2 is not that game, but Destiny 3 could be.

                        • This game needs an overhaul. One that can only be accomplished with a new installment(destiny 3) Unfortunately, D2 and Eververse makes too much money for bungie to put a pause on D2 to fully commit to a new game
