Date Nights
agfjgkgkfkgk just a random post/story don’t mind me... DONT READ THIS
"So... why did you never fight back?" Shadow considers the question, tilting her head thoughtfully. She aims her eyes down at her half empty glass. "I think I was really just a coward, first of all. Secondly, I wanted the affection. I wanted to pretend it meant something. Even though, in the end, all it did was make things worse." She grins with tired eyes. "And, I thought I deserved it." Variks watches her carefully. "I know you understand, albeit in a different way." She shrugs the topic off with a roll of her shoulders before he can ask any more. "Yes... I suppose that's why we're here. We have much in common, much to discuss." He drinks. The hunter smirks at him. "That we do. And we shall lose our minds together." She raises her glass to his. He grins wryly, connecting his glass with hers. "Won't be long now." "So. How do you want to die?" Shadow asks over the rim of her drink. Variks takes a moment to consider. "Peacefully, but ...I do not know how. As long as I have done my job." He continues before she can ask anything else. "And I suppose you want to go out in a fiery blaze of glory?" He gestures to her with a hand. Smiling, she meets his eyes. She doesn't have to answer. "I like how we're so similar and yet so different." "Makes for an interesting conversation, wouldn't you say?" he burbles. "Yeah." Drinking, she ponders another question. "Alright," she decides, setting down her drink and leaning forward on the table. "When's the last time you got into a fight?" Variks hides his surprise at the question. "I— I do not know... a long time ago," he says, hesitant, as if he were unwilling to provide the answer. "Was it with that... Devil captain?" Resting her chin in her palm, Shadow smirks. "No," he huffs, averting his gaze. "I was a scribe... I did not fight in the ways you do." Shadow opens her mouth to continue goading him on, but he cuts her off. "Are those your only two piercings?" He points at the two diamonds on her upper lip. "Oh, yes," she stammers, taken aback. "They are." "I have seen these on some guardians. What is their purpose?" "It's mostly aesthetic. Some of us just like them." "Eliksni also appreciate beautiful things... Variks misses old eliksni fashion," he burbles, then adds curiously, "Did they hurt?" "I can't remember, but I don't think so." "They are a nice touch to your face." "Ahah... thank you." She melts into her seat a little. "Have you ever made another guardian beg for mercy?" He chuckles at the inflammatory question. Shadow rolls her eyes. "Yeah yeah, very funny. I get it, I'm great at crucible. I am sure you could so much better, O great Kell of Kells." Feigning sincerity, she places a hand over her heart. "That mouth will get you in trouble one day," he sneers. "Oh yeah? I hope so." Variks's eyes widen before he lets out a sigh. "I should not be surprised, and yet you still manage to catch me off guard." Using her best impression of his voice, Shadow replies, "Nothing guarded?" Variks eyes her teasingly. "Do you remember all of my jokes?" Face flushing, she shrugs. "Ah, I don't know. Most of them, I guess." Looking down at her glass, she pauses as she thinks of another question. "Do you think it's easier to forgive, or forget?" "That depends on who you ask," Variks answers before drinking. "So, what of you?" He sets the glass down. "Forgive. And I know for you, it will be forget." "I'm not surprised. But why do you think mine is forget?" "You have a terrible memory," he reminds her dryly. "Oh yeah. That's true." "And why are you not surprised by my answer?" "Because. You're too sweet to everyone," she says with a smile. "I like that about you." Variks keeps his focus on his drink, but Shadow can hear the faintest purr, vibrating softly within his chest. "Have you ever been outside without your clothes?" "What kind of questions are these?" the eliksni bursts, incredulous. "I don't know— most likely at some point when I was very, very young." She laughs. "They're good questions!" "What of you?" Variks narrows his eyes. "Oh, yes." She taps her hand on the table, remembering. "The crazy one I spoke of earlier. He tossed me outside without my clothes." Variks sneers in disgust. "Petty, dishonorable." "Mm... I just waited to be let back inside." She lets out a good natured chuckle. "Like an animal?" Variks shakes his head. "Well, nowadays it's just funny." A pause. "I admire this about you." "What?" "You are capable of maintaining humor in most tragic situations... especially your own," he rasps. "You have a lightheartedness that is... hard to come by, for Eliksni." Shadow clears her throat, lost for a response. She manages a quiet thank you. "So... is there anything you're really interested in, or obsessed with?" Variks taps his claws on the table as he thinks. "Nothing that you do not already know." He looks at her as if he's just had a realization. "I know yours." "You do-?" The eliksni's smug expression gives away his answer. Shadow pauses, scowling. "Ahhaha, you really think you're clever." "Yesss." "Very modest, I see... I have a good one," she continues, leaning closer to him. "Do you believe in true love?" Growing serious, Variks tilts his head with a searching blue gaze. "I have a better one. After everything you've been through... Why do you?" Shadow's smile disappears, and she stares into his sky colored gaze. "I met you." Variks sighs, his eyes softening, shoulders slumping. "You are something else," he murmurs, breaking eye contact and looking down at her hand as he reaches for it. Blushing, the hunter interlocks her fingers with his. "Yeah. I've heard that before. Usually it's not a good thing," she laughs, the hurt behind her words well hidden. "It is good," he insists immediately, looking back up at her. "Thank you for tonight." Shrugging, she squeezes his hand a little tighter. "Yeah, of course..." She trails off as his other hand meets her face. She leans into his touch as he pulls her closer, gently. The hunter's heart speeds up frantically, her face going red. Variks softly presses his mouth to hers in an attempt at a kiss. Her body tenses as her lips meet his rough skin, returning the kiss as best as she can. Breathless in a matter of seconds, she pulls away, looking in any other direction. The movement of her glass catches her eye. Variks slides it closer to her. "I hear drinking helps when you are nervous." The blushing hunter scoffs, raising her eyes to glare at him. She swiftly downs the rest of her drink. "I'm going to bed."
