There's a few issues with your statement. Firstly, Cross-Save cannot be used to merge separate save data. It sounds like your friend linked with their son's profile on Steam and chose the Steam save data as the active save data, which would leave their Xbox save data stored. Secondly, Having purchased silver does not make an account disappear, with Cross-Save, it just stops them from being able to disable Cross-Save for 90 days after the purchase. I'm not sure where your friend got information that purchasing Silver will make their account unavailable for 30 days. As far as what can be done: Your friend will have to fill out the Cross-Save help form if they wish to disable Cross-Save. In addition to that, your friend really needs to create their own Steam ID for their own Cross-Save, or create an Xbox XBL ID for their son if they wish to enable Cross-Save to play on both platforms. Again, this is because Cross-Save does not merge accounts; if Cross-Save is ever disabled, the Xbox save data is once again only available on Xbox and the Steam save data is once again only available on Steam; disabling Cross-Save does not create a duplicate of the save data to leave on the unlinked accounts.
