Preserving the Destiny Narrative Between Seasons

I have really enjoyed the lore stories put out by the Dev team each day leading up to Season of Dawn. I especially enjoyed the recent article, Actions of Mutual Friends. This really made me curious about the Undying Mind, how it was defeated, and the story of Season of Undying. Since I have not had the opportunity to play the past season, I thought it would be cool if Bungie could put out an after season report/story capturing the main plot points of the season. Since the story of each new season in Destiny 2 is supposed to be influenced by the successes and failures of players in the previous season, documenting the story of each season could be really helpful for new player to get immersed in the current state of the Destiny Universe. Such documents could also make for an impressive history when arranged into a timeline.

  • This is where I think Bungie have made a complete hash of their year 3 plan. Seasonal content shouldn't be time gated and prevent players from catching upto speed. I love the fact I can go play Destiny 1 from start to finish, I know where I began, fighting through all the campaigns. D2 was OK to begin with, then Curse of Osiris was so weak I quit for awhile, came back just before forsaken launched, again caught up with Warmind. Forsaken was a gem, but Season of the forge bored me I quit again till season of opulence and caught up with what I'd missed. And it was fun playing through what I'd missed out on, catching up again. Now though, A new light fails completely. Yea you do the first mission from D1, but once in the tower that's it, no need to do the Campaigns, in fact your not even told to go do them, Amanda has the Campaigns but at no point are you guided to go talk to her. And that in turn carries over into the seasonal journey from now on. Destiny is supposed to be a journey, where it ends, how it ends, we don't really know, at this stage I don't even think Bungie know either. But by making each season now time gated, no dlc to replay if you miss any. You're going to miss out on the pages of lore from each season. Bungie say the vex offensive will affect how the future landscape will be, but if you've not played the season, you have no idea how that happens. I'm fed up with folk defending Bungie with "but it's only a $10" season pass, sorry but that doesn't wash. Each proper annual pass dlc was $30, now that equated to 2/3 dlc so realistically each actual dlc cost $15/10. But at least we can replay those over and over. We have activities, raids, public events ect we can choose to jump back into at any point. Once this season is over, that's it, there's no replaying, no catching up with lore if we missed out ect.
