I have this exact same issue. I sign using steam credentials, approve the login and then I am back at the companion home screen and it is still asking me to sign in. I have tried force closing and restarting the app, uninstalling and reinstalling it and restarting my phone too. I then signed in and out of the website also just in case there was an issue with a sign in somewhere. After all that... no dice. Now they bungled this too along with the end to the vex offensive.

The apps are having a problem at the moment. If logging out and clearing your device cache then logging back in does not fix it, a way around, for now, is to use a web page to access Bungie.net and if you need to transfer items, etc try using Dim Destiny Item Manager as that is working fine. DIM and the website do allow me to do this but I need to leave the game to do so whereas using the app I do not which is why it is so convenient. If the apps are having a problem and they are working on the issue then great and I hope it is resolved soon but I have not seen any communication from Bungie about this on the forums here or on twitter. A simple tweet or post about it would suffice and I would be happy to wait until it was resolved yet there is nothing thus my original post.

Try uninstalling and clearing cache the re-installing has worked for my husband this morning.

Oh apologies I forgot to mention that I tried your suggestion of a fix but it did not work. I cleared the cache with the app both stopped and running and tried signing in multiple times to no avail. I also uninstalled and reinstalled it another two times on my S8+ and cleared the cache again and it did not work so I guess this thing is as broken as it gets.
