(Page 73) "I thought you wished to help us here." He sounds questioning, suspicious.       "I do." Shadow blinks pleadingly. "I was helping with this, before I came here... for Cayde." Despite her anger, her bitterness... something deep within urges her to continue. Perhaps the part of her that had not received closure with Cayde. The part of her that still saw him as a friend, a mentor, and the first person she had cared deeply for after her resurrection.      At the mention of Cayde, Variks turns his face away. Shadow pushes away her pity. "This is the last thing I want to do, and it wouldn't hurt our cause either."      "I understand."      "Please, my Kell."      "Pirrha is dangerous."      She pauses, surprised, wondering if he really cares for her. "You can trust me. I'll be back."      He turns to her, tapping his staff on the floorplates. "Yes, you will."      Shadow tilts her head.      "Because I will be there with you."      She hears a click in her headset. A thrill of excitement races through her. Just like their hunt for Skolas.
