Which alien species caused the great collapse?
Was it Hive, Vex, Cabal, Fallen, Ahamkara, or some thing we've never seen in game yet?

The hive were there, but the fallen caused it
-
The Hive were definitely there, though id say it was definitively ‘caused’ by the darkness itself, or something like that which we’ve yet to encounter

Bearbeitet von SaroN: 9/16/2019 3:17:20 PMIt was the Light! Guardians brought the light in to the darkness.
If we quit the game. every problem will be solved.
we should‘ve stayed on the tiny planet called earth. btw. who is Ahamkara?

Something we've never seen..... ...but is hinted at in several areas of the game. The only two characters who have likely had direct contact with them are Cayde-6 (he was alive during the Collapse and seems to have retained some memories from it). .... ...and The Drifter. In the lore, he (and a crew of other Risen/Lightbearers) came into contact with **something** that could permanently drain someone's light with a mere touch. Gambit is his answer and "therapy" to having experienced this I suspect that **whatever** these things are, they were left behind as sentinels from the force that caused The Collapse. The Traveller's Vision (given to us after our light got snuffed out in the vanilla D2 campaign) and Cayde's memories of dying during The Collapse also corroborates this.

Bearbeitet von Necrogen: 9/14/2019 7:46:20 PMWe were our own collapse.. also the traveler and whatever the darkness is
-
Look at us now on earth in real life! We caused the collapse! We are disgusting to ourselves, and I truly believe if we ever would all just get along is if someone came here from somewhere else and starting killing us, unfortunately if they did we are clearly no match, and would just end up being slaves!(“we’d make great pets,we’d make great pets!”)
-
It was the humans. We are great at destroying everything around us.

The Darkness
-
The Darkness. I thought that was pretty clear from D1.... The Darkness came for the Traveler and tore it a new booty hole before leaving. That’s where the Dark Age kicks in.

Bearbeitet von jafer_33: 9/15/2019 12:42:30 AMIt is most likely the pyramid ships from the post-credits scene which we have not seen yet. Hopefully we will have more info on them in Shadowkeep and I believe that this is certainly the case as Luke Smith said that Shadowkeep's story will move the main narrative forward from the post-credits scene.

Bearbeitet von Grays_KS27: 9/14/2019 8:36:48 PM
Yo momma
All lore says “the Darkness” D2 clips show the tetrahedron ships attacking the Traveler and falling into a slumber with it. The Marasenna reveals that there was a mysterious ship that clashed with the Traveler as an equal/opposite force. The shape of the ship wasn’t revealed, but it was most likely a tetrahedron ship. The Fallen and Cabal didn’t arrive until after the Collapse. The Vex were the first enemies in the system, being on Venus before Humanity existed and arriving on Mercury with the Traveler. But the Vex mostly kept to themselves. They started attacking Humanity before the Collapse, but didn’t do anything important. The first Hive to arrive were supposedly Nokris’ brood during the Collapse, but they weren’t the cause of the Collapse and were stopped by Rasputin before they could do anything. We don’t know when Crota’s brood arrived, but it was most likely at the end of the Collapse or shortly after. The Ahamkara arrived after the Collapse and aren’t the cause of the Collapse. They’re only goal is to feed on wishes.

Well... The Hive and the Darkness are the most likely. We encountered the Vex during the golden age (that's why we made Exos, to fight them), the fallen came after the darkness left, and the cable weren't seen by humans untill either the late dark age or early city age So it's most likely that the Darkness and the Hive came to Sol an started messing stuff up, then the Darkness was beaten back and the Hive started preparing for the long haul in its absence

Literally the first cutscene in the game states and actually shows the enemy that caused the collapse. The ancient enemy of the Traveler, the "Darkness" (Being the equal but opposite of the light). The triangular shadow that looms over the traveler matches the ships that lit up in the final cutscene of the main campaign. With the Traveler awake again, so is the Darkness. Guess we'll see what happens with that...and remember, the Darkness is closer than we think.

The Darkness. We have not seen it in-game.
-
The Collapse was caused by the Darkness which true nature is, for now, unknown. Many scenes inside the game link the Darkness to the Polyhedral Ships, however we don't know exactly what those ships are. They may be something like the Traveler, or simply another civilation of enemies linked to the Darkness like the Hive.
From Cayde-6 "Treasure Island Book" we have also other informations about what the Darkness could be. Cayde-6, as an Exo, have some fragments of his old life before come back as Guardian. Among those, he have fragments of the Collapse. On this book/journal he wrote:
There's no bounty. No Hive. I'm out in plain sight. Sky is torn open and there's nothing and nobody left in this ruined world but me and the boiling shadow all around. Whatever it is hits me before I can level my gun. Doesn't matter. Tendrils of pain crawl over my splayed fingers, my outstretched arms, my shoulders, my neck, my screaming mouth as it consumes. I'm being enveloped. Everything is wrong. Primordial. My systems go sideways. All but my sensors. It wants me to witness this, the world. [Drawings of black creatures that we haven't seen - may be Taken or The Darkness]
The creatures are these:
https://d2skuhm0vrry40.cloudfront.net/2018/articles/2018-08-29-14-13/cayde_s_journal.jpg/EG11/resize/690x-1/quality/75/format/jpg
Description and draw seem to match with the Creatures that the Drifter and his crew found on an Icy Planet far out our solar system, probably the Athenaeum World X of th Cabal Empire:
The Drifter's crew found a series of abandoned monolith-like structures on the planet, which they discovered contained strange, amorphous shadow-like creatures imprisoned in cryogenic suspension. They determined that these entities were the source of the Light-repressing fields and that they shared some characteristics with the Hive, although the Drifter regretted not having a scientist among his crew who could study them better.[5] They soon discovered that not all of the creatures were imprisoned in the monoliths and that some roamed out in the wild. One night while they slept in the frozen wilderness due to it still being warmer than inside the cryogenic monoliths, a member of the Drifter's crew froze to death but was unable to be revived by his Ghost due to the proximity of one of the creatures.
(Source: https://www.destinypedia.com/The_Drifter_(character)). Calus seems to have met the Darkness to while he was in his exile on the Leviathan and this encounter is described into the Confessions Lore books:
https://www.destinypedia.com/Lore:Confessions
The Darkness. They’re their own race. In D1 we called the hive, fallen, cabal, vex, and taken minions of the darkness, but the only ones even closely related to the darkness are the hive and taken. The Hive just worship the darkness. And I think the darkness plays a role in the process of taking.
