I remember back when bungie was getting around to nerfing whisper they said that snipers pretty much just take the back seat because of it and since then...nothings changed.
I know snipers aren't really boss weapons, but I feel like their utility for pretty much anything else is limited because of how precise you have to be to basically get nothing but a shotguns damage they deal to the body.
In pve you also can get flinched pretty hard which makes lining up those shots a problem especially for a console user like myself.
I have enhanced unflinching on my chest piece and even then the tiniest of dreg shots messes with the aiming too much but I know messing with this would lead to problems in PvP and I would say leave that alone.
Some recoil control, I think would be a good buff for the 140s and 72s because they are hard to control sometimes and the stacking flinch doesn't help.
And finally I feel like there just aren't any real pve activities to support using them.
A lot of activities have areas where the enemies are in a medium sized room and they are always just close enough to fight back with ease.
The only place I've ever found snipers particularly useful is in the shattered throne because of how large and open a few places are that you traverse through.
The shattered throne is one of the few places where playing with my special weapon load out or primary load out doesn't feel like a waste of time.
I think the 140s rpm snipers could use a 15% damage boost and a reduction in recoil (as it is, the flinch paired with trying to maximize fire rate is incredibly difficult, at least on console).
90s could use 15% as well but should have 5 rounds on average from now on without needing magazine perks (This is because they are the most well rounded of the 3 but have the most generally lacking damage because the vast difference in magazine size and fire rate compared to 140s but also too similar magazine sizes to 72 rpm snipers and way too much lower damage, magazine improvements here could go a long way).
And finally the 72 rpm snipers could use a 20% buff, as well as a reduction in recoil (the high damage nature is useful, but the lack of fire rate and magazine really hurts the weapon when you miss shots so what they can dish out over their 3 rounds is important).
I want snipers to feel just a bit more comfortable to use in my fellow console players hands while giving them a bit more power to help them finish off tougher targets.
It's not like they suck...they just don't add the same level of usability that shotguns do.

Yes. They're the least used special weapon in PvE. They need to penetrate elemental shields for crits like they did in D1. It shouldn't take 2 sniper shots to kill a shielded redbar.
-
I think just in precision damage buff in PvE. Any other special in the game is better at killing majors. Part of this is due to the safe distance snipers offer in PvE, but more often than not, you're not at that distance and you're getting flinched by Taken like crazy.

Buff? While I am always ok with buffs I am not exactly sure why a sniper needs a buff. Especially the fast firing kind. I use snipers in PvE often and never once did "these need a buff" cross my mind. They do exactly as advertised if you hit the crit shot. Standing at the back of a map hiding and plinking away at a boss with no worries of counter offensive made D1 boss fights a joke.

i agree. additionally, since special ammo scavenger mods are getting nerfed, maybe increase the reserves for snipers across the board? i think that would increase their viability across the board.

I have no problem with them as weapons. What I hate is when I try to use one, every bad guy within five miles ducks behind cover, even the ones whose backs were turned when I equipped it. Then they start moving randomly back and forth, reacting to every move I make, even though I'm too far away to see. The AI just plain sucks.

you got izanagi's burden with the catalyst that's about it
-
I think they're actually pretty good right now. The only reason people aren't using them is because of the insane damage of other weapons.

Rapid Hit and Triple Tap on a 90 rpm sniper with 7 shots in the mag will give you 10 shots without reloading. A 90 rpm sniper with 4th Times the Charm and 7 shots in the mag will give you 11 shots without reloading. The best you could do in D1 was 5 in the mag on a 90 rpm Triple Tap sniper for 7 shots without reloading. And D1 didn't have Rapid Hit, which is just insanely good on snipers.

Snipers should be able to crit shielded enemies.

Yeah definitely, I miss when the fastest way to kill a raid boss was with a sniper like ex machina or a triple tap casket mag eirene as opposed to just well of radiance+hold mouse 1

Firing line perk

They should anyway that is y they nerfed whisper

Only sniper I ever seriously use is Izanagi's Burden. And Darci when I do Scourge.

Snipers do need a PvE buff. In D2, a shotgun in my character inventory was rare and I preferred to use a Fusion or a Sniper in strikes or endgame activities. In D2, I feel as if they don't really pack the same punch anymore or the enemies just got more health. I mained pretty much Ex~Machina on all of my characters in different elements, but I also had a PvE god roll LDR. Not to mention that Primaries felt stronger in D1 than in D2.
