If Menagerie never had the exploit...

Would people still be complaining about the loot and only getting one chest? or would they view it as reasonable and still enjoy the activity for what it is? Edit: Seems like most people would want a game mode that is hard but last only about ten min where the reward is a weapon of their choosing (in the archetype they desire) with the specific perks they are looking for for their own god roll and master worked to the stat they want. In which I'm guessing they would play it just enough times (5-6) to get all the different weapon types they want then would never play it again.

  • Yes. 1 drop per run is meh at best (see reckoning) and is definitely not worth the time when hunting for rolls on weapons and armor.

  • If my aunt had nuts would she be my uncle? Lol just playing no offense intended. 😉 You make a good point but even with the exploit many players didn’t get the perfect rolled weapons or armor they wanted. Bungie was 100% aware that people wanted a middle ground so their time played would be respected but as usual they ignored all feedback while pretending to be listening. I’ve played Menagerie once since they fixed/ruined it, depending on your perspective, and won’t be running it again any time soon. It was fun while it lasted though. ✌🏽

    • After people realized that they can’t get the roll they wanted after running 40+ times it would’ve died pretty quickly like Anthem lol. That’s a lot of time spent for one chest even though you can arrange for what drops from it. The issue is that even with the exploit it was very unlikely that you got the roll you wanted. Now, had there always been 3 chests waiting for us at the end only accessed by chalice runes I don’t think there wouldn’t have been many complaints. I love the idea of queuing into an event with 5 other randos and completing it. I think that’s an idea Bungie needs to build on more. The time vs rewards needs a lot of tweaking though.

      • It takes the same time as a strike, gives a powerful reward and you can choose what you get and its masterwork stat. If that isn't worth the time, then neither are the majority of milestones, strikes, pvp and gambit. Only the forges offer anything similar and they need prep work. So the question is what are these people doing if 15 mins isn't worth a guaranteed drop?

        • We’d notice the issue even then. These are to me minimum 20 min but often hit 40 min with current crew. Randoms I’ve done it in 15 min to 30 min. The roles often are crap even though we choose half the set perks.

          • I was saying before I even knew about the exploit it was in no way worth the reward for the time investment per run. And I love menagerie, but it's the truth.

            • If the exploit didn’t exist I wouldn’t bother with menagerie, this games loot economy is stingy and everyone I knew left because of it.

            • I haven’t been in since the chest nerf , I ran it 22 times that was enough . I didn’t get a weapon I liked anyway , I’d rather my Luna and Bygones

              It would have just been another weekly, nothing more. Here's some of the common arguments, and some counters - 1) People praised it at the start - People praised it because it was something of a new format for a casual activity, doesn't mean they weren't going to get tired of it pretty quickly. Everyone praised Gambit Prime at the start, doesn't mean they're not sick of it now. 2) You get to pick your item and masterwork - That's great... if the roll is any good. If it's a trash roll it's still a trash item and just going to be scrapped. Ironically the random drop format made it more exciting to get a good roll, because A) you were never really expecting it, and B) you were rarely trying to get something specific. Getting to pick your loot actually works against itself in a sense because getting something bad makes it that much more disappointing. 3) People are just spoilt - It's a looter/shooter RPG lite... we like loot. DUH. 4) It's the most efficient grind - Efficiency without entertainment and a sense of progression overall doesn't make for good replay value. Destiny's 2 grind overall is lacking because it offers nothing outside of single loot drops, there are no valuable currencies, no reputations to increase, no crafting skills to master, no smaller goals to work towards, no character progressions etc. Whilst this may change with Shadowkeep, this is about the game as of NOW. 5) I'm fine with it because I got the good rolls already - good for you, lil buddy... how about everyone else? 6) If there was never an exploit people wouldn't be complaining - No, they'd have just got bored of it and stopped playing like everything else. The chest exploit gave players a taste of an actual casual endgame activity they could sink time into consistently and feel adequately rewarded for doing so. The multiple chest Menagerie was the casual players raid in essence. The multiple chests offered a set of rewards that even if they weren't worth using as gear, they were worth getting for materials.

            • I haven’t been back since the patch. I’m already 750 light so leveling isn’t an incentive. Also, I farmed like 50 or so imperial decrees and I didn’t get the roll that I wanted. So if the original “cheese” didn’t get me the roll I wanted, then 1 drop a run doesn’t seem worth my time. And that’s just for 1 gun. I would’ve liked to get a beloved and an austringer as well

              • I don’t think people would be complaining and I do think it’s a fair time investment. 20 minutes for the guaranteed legendary drop you want with being able to determine the masterwork is great. I think back to the Lost Sector farm for Dust Rock and that was tedious, boring and terrible odds of getting what you wanted. I get people are angry as ‘god rolls’ were farmable with the chest cheese and its another case of having something being taken away/nerfed but it was too rewarding if you look at it objectively.

                • We would've done a few and left it behind. It isn't the bug, its the rewards...or lack thereof. Look at how many of each color and type you have for your chalice now. Seem reasonable? Or like they pile up and there is no way you could use them up.

                • if the exploit never existed i think it wouldn't be played and enjoyed as much. people would play it on Tuesday for the powerful drop reset and then never touch it again until next reset. as much as i love the game mode, it is now impossible to find people.

                    Nope never would have played it to begin with. Especially since there is no cap on the runes. To fix the glitch they didn't need to in the first place but instead make our choices more meaning full by capping the runes at 10. That would have fixed the problem cause you can only run back and fourth like 5 or 6 times before the timer kicks you back to orbit. Then you have to run it again. But at the moment with 50 some odd runes and only one run per week for any type of menagerie gear. No. Just no. Bungie screwed up again because they refuse to allow us to do what there game is suppose to be. An mmo rpg based looter shooter. Destiny is not an mmo. Destiny is not an rpg. Destiny is barely a looter game. And Destiny is a shit shooter.

                    I guess people like you don’t want to register that bungie was at 6mln at some point, and the whole market expected them to outperform D1 stats. Do you think they’re happy they lost 150k to fall back at about 500k? Lmfao!

                  • People would of complained about it because the RNG is awful when your looking for God rolls or your version of a god roll, the menagerie was only successful because of the looting the chest 5/6 times a run, it's such a repetitive game mode that gets boring real fast, even more so with the heroic version as that's the same encounters in the same order over an over again. Me personally I think I've ran normal 70-80 times an heroic about 25+ times an I still don't have God rolls for all the weapons i wanted that's 500 plus rolls, without the chest I will clear heroic once a week for my free 7 infusion cores but other than that the game mode won't be touched.

                  • It would be like Reckoning. Everyone will complain about the RNG and bad rolls. Then, once new stuff comes out it will die because it’s not worth the time and hassle for bad rewards compared to the new activities and loot.

                      The grinding is unreal for the loot in a lot of areas. Just the time it takes to get a new exotic is anoying. Pull the same one you already have time and time again. it just gets boring after the annoying stage..now i haven't played in 4 months, but i quit because of the grinding so figured I'd put my 2 cents. I dont raid, I prefer to solo or just quick play so the grinding is a daily normal thing I dealt with. I missed the glitch but if I read correct then the glitch just gave more chests? That's still a hella lot of grinding to get specific items expically if you play 3 chars. (I enjoy a variety.) I dont think you should be forced to have a small set of weapons you swap from char to char. You should be able to farm weapons or gear In general but that's not how anything is. Your forced to grind out everything instead of being able to farming things, regardless of the glitch the game is still to "grindy" so why not leave the glitch alone? Finally something worth you time. (I'll be back when Sept gets here so idc either way about the glitch) but still. It appeared to be one of those "finally" things, your gonna get paid for your time.
