The real problem with pvp, as I see it, is the rate of sandbox changes. I'm not saying that matchmaking is great, or that there aren't other huge problems; but just hear me out.
"META" loadouts only become a problem, when the pvp team allows the meta to remain unchanged for months and months at a time. Mida + mini, 450 RPM ARs + 3-shot sidearms, Antiope + VW/GL, shotguns + LH/NF. These loadouts were the meta, remained that way for huge lengths of time, then got nerfed so far as to make them the least competitive archetypes for each weapon type.
Would 450 ARs have required a nerf if other weapons got their time at the top for a month or so? The same question goes for 3-shot burst sidearms, or 600 RPM smgs. Would LH/NF be a problem if Bungie, just for a little while, tried removing bloom from other hand cannons?
Why is Bungie so damn afraid of changing things? For just a month, try removing bloom, buffing scouts, increasing the range on autos, etc. Honestly, what is there to lose? Allow the rabid fan base to be your play testers if you don't have the manpower to fully test something in house. Just do something!

No ranking system means you get people milking comp obtained weapons and then hitting quick play asap. It’s become a shit show because of a lack of ranking and mismatched games (even in quick play) You get triple tier diamond heavy weight players vs rust bucket 0.5 new starts. It’s pretty broken considering the skill gap and then the pinnacle weapons that can be obtained.
