How Removing Enhancement Cores from infusion fixes the economy

Right now, I refuse to infuse anything. I don’t want to waste my precious cores! By refusing to infuse, I’m also hoarding materials just Incase I want to infuse someday: gunsmith parts, planetary materials, glimmer, legendary shards. I have a large stock of each material because I save everything just Incase I want to infuse! Now let’s imagine enhancement cores are gone from infusion. I now spend 25 materials every time I get a new item. Quickly, my stash runs out. I now go to spider every day and purchase materials; glimmer and legendary shards now have a role in the economy. Now, I also use enhancement cores to enhance my permanent build with masterworks. I now fully upgrade my armor and weapons and spend masterwork cores as soon as I earn them. Now, cores feel like they are an exciting part of upgrading my character and not a boring grind. Now, I have an impactful experience where I have to work for 12 different resources as part of progression instead of just hoarding materials and playing unfun gear I don’t like.

    • Its quite clear that the system is broken... Masterworking an item is meant to be a big decision and something you only do for those items you truly like but whats happened is the hardcore no life players are still fine and feel no pain from the system that was designed to slow them down... but everyone else is hurting.... Adding more sources is Bungie's way of trying to please the hardcore crowd and keep the grind the streamers asked for in the last summit but also trying to soften the pain point for more casuals but the grind wasn't even effecting the hardcores and all this is done is give them even more cores but force people with limit time to waste it grinding boring bountys just so they can infuse to level needed to try harder content... So this solution of adding more cores to bountys failed.... Bungies solution add more cores to more bountys... yet again not effecting the hardcore no life players but reducing the majority of players time in game to grind bountys for 1 core just to infuse to play harder content... nothing meaningful there... Also adding more sources makes masterworking every item even easy for those hardcore no lifers or people with lots of time to play even easier so de-valuing the true endgame use for cores. What needs to happen is cores need to be removed from basic infusion! this will not effect the no lifers or people with lots of time on their hands but will greatly improve the experience for everyone else.... They then need to remove cores from spider bountys and spiders store the only source for cores at this point should be RNG or scrapper bounty's making masterworking the meaningful decision this change effects everyone but not in a way that negativity impacts gameplay.

    • The bad economy was created by Bungie. Instead, they disguised it with “impactful feeling”. It is all based off the same mindset (for pvp) of penalizing you for losing instead of rewarding you more for winning to only call it challenge not let players have fun but frustration and fear of losing while playing. Just simple bounties, they would put expirations on them so that you waste either glimmers or time or both if you can’t get them done in time. It could be made a much pleasant way that a bounty won’t expire once started or refund you (full or partial) glimmers if not started when it expires or if you choose to discard when partially done. What Bungie’s gotta to lose? Nothing. But every little shit they do, it would make you waste your time and effort.

    • as per your title, removing enhancement cores from infusion fixes the economy because it removes the problem it itself created lol. that said, as your example with purchasing materials from spider; if they just didnt double in damn price, that would potentially solve a lot of issues as well.

      • [you forgot to account for the bugs that might insure from the immediate removal from infusion. While in theory these things could include people being blocked from infusion for no reason, masterworks requiring more cores than stated, a lowering of the core drop rate, and potentially bounties/dismantles that reward cores not doing so. Some hypotheticals but you have to account for everything.]

        • You have to grind more to masterwork than you do to infuse. It will take 101 masterwork cores to full masterwork your favorite loadout and that's all fine and dandy But the 16 cores to infuse every one of your gear pieces.... That's just too much?

            I would actually be able to start masterworking my weapons and armor. I cant remember the last time I fully masterworked a piece of grear.

            • There is no "economy". There's no way to trade anything from one player to another. Just a bunch of people grinding the same exact content over and over and over again praying to RNGesus that they will get something that's not total dogshit.

            • its not even about the cores anymore, but the damn principle if bungie doesnt address this concern ASAP by removing cores , there is no way i will buy anything from them in future , even if they release a free to play game i wont spend any of my time on it just to make a point

              • This is why countries no longer "peg" their currencies. That is set its value against a commodity (like gold) that is in fixed supply. It (like cores) rigidly restricts they supply of money...and has a smothering effect on the economy. By doing what they done, Bungie essentially turned cores into a PEGGED currency...dramatically slowed progression, and threw ice water on Masterworkign. So---like you---people hoard cores. They dont' want to spend them, because its such a PITA to try to get more of them. The problem is that they also threw ice water on the reward loop that sustain the game. Its like going into your basement and dousing your furnace. Yes it saves fuel...but it makes the house cold and uncomfortable to live in.

                • On the contrary, I think it would break the economy. Just think about how many cores you would get if you didn't spend any on infusion. You would have all of your gear masterworked and have hundreds of spare cores in no time, and they would become just like legendary shards in year 1. If they're going to remove or reduce enhancement cores from infusion, they would need to compensate for that by removing some of the ways to obtain them. I'm not a fan of the idea of removing them, but I understand that's what some people want. However, you need to realize that removing them without any other change would just make the economy inflate immediately and they would just be another useless material.

                    • wow. confused are you? this isn't a working economy. the value of cores doesn't fluctuate like the dollar. why would you infuse each item as you get it? dead wrong in that. why are you playing with things you don't want to? there's zero reason to not play with what you like. there's only 1 activity over 650 your gear takes you through it all. the issue isn't cores, it's people who lack understanding of how this game works. hence Bungie telling you people repeatedly that cores are not an issue

                      • My only problem with removing cores from infusion is that we now have so many ways to get cores that it trivializes masterworking items. If they were to remove the core cost from infusion, I think they should increase the cost for masterworking items by one additional core per level, so I think it’ll end up around 25 cores. Then, masterworking weapons is still a fairly heavy resource sink, as I believe it should be. The armor shouldn’t increase in core cost though, as I think it’s a small enough bonus that it should stay pretty cheap.
