Telesto

Ok so as more of a PvE player I'm not a fan of nerfs for the sake of crucible balance, but I deal with the hand I'm dealt. The boost to scout rifles, fusion rifles, and swords in PvE has been fantastic for having more variety with viable loadouts and I would go as far as to say scout rifles need to be buffed even more, but so far I think it's a great change and I think Bungie needs to continue separating PvE balances from PvP. The change to Sleeper's ammo economy in gambit is another change I fully support because it doesn't take away the power of sleeper, it just gives more reason to use other power weapons. I do play PvP quite a bit and I have adjusted to the current pulse rifle + shotgun meta and I honestly really enjoy its current state despite occasionally running into some people abusing certain mechanics (infinite one hit shoulder charge for example). With the weapon system comes a huge number of options when it comes to loadouts and it gives everyone the access to cover close range with shotguns and sidearms all the way to long range with scout rifles and snipers, it's up to the individual player to determine what works for them. Every type of weapon falls into a different category of effectiveness depending on the situation and for the most part I think Bungie has done a great job combining fun space shenanigans with PvP balance: the game is not boring anymore. When weapons or abilities start to break out of their normal situational use, the players notice. We noticed with weapons like Thorn and Last Word and Bungie responded by nerfing them into oblivion, and with weapons like Gjallarhorn and Icebreaker they took them completely out of the game until we begged Bungie to bring them back in Year 3. Here we have Telesto. I think I speak for a good chunk of the community when I say a fusion rifle should not be killing at sniper rifle range, even an exotic. The ease of use combined with heavy access to ammo with a fusion rifle scavenger perk and no damage dropoff along with no drawback to using Telesto vs. another energy weapon makes Telesto easily the best energy weapon in PvP and it's very noticable. I really enjoy PvP at the moment, but every time I hear the high pitched hum of a Telesto I just cringe. Now I purposefully prefaced this statement with the fact that I hate nerfs because I do not want to see Telesto turn into something completely unusable as a quick bandaid fix, but something does need to be addressed so that I'm not forced into a loadout that constantly has to counter Telesto users just to remain competitive. Please think carefully about this Bungie, you've been doing well with balances lately and I don't want you to return to lazy nerfs to stop complainers because that's not going to better this game. If any of y'all have ideas for an appropriate way to balance Telesto feel free to leave a comment, I'm just trying to start a conversation, peace.

  • I believe every fusion rifle shoots 7 or 8 bolts. Telesto should only shoot five, but the damage and range shouldn't be decreased. This way Telesto is still mapping if you are able to connect with most of your bolts, but it requires a certain level of skill. Not everyone will be able to adjust mid-shot to continue moving their analog stick in order to hit a strafing target.
