Grand Theft Auto V is one of the worst games of all time, as I've barely been capable of playing the disaster. With Grand Theft Auto V also being a product of the 7th generation, it will hopefully be interesting to see what Rockstar has to offer for their very first (and probably only) game of the 8th generation. Red Dead Redemption itself is not an amazing game. I liked it though (mostly for its story), and with this in mind I'm picking up the sequel in a period where the majority of 8th generation video games are all overrated for the most part. Hopefully this game isn't as much a letdown as other open-world games of the 8th generation, including Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and of course The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

  • I totally agree. The majority of hyped games are ....shall we say, "crap" at best, at worst "-blam!-in awful". Its a shame, they promise so much, but deliver so little, at exorbitant prices.

If breath of the wild isn’t good, why did it win game of the year? If gta isn’t good, why is it so successful? If spiderman and horizon aren’t good, why did they get good ratings? Idk about shadow of mordor I haven’t heard much about it. Your excessive, needless, toxic hate towards games you don’t like is dumb. There’s an old saying that goes “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. You have had nothing nice to say about a vast majority of the games talked about on this forum. A lot of the time your opinion doesn’t even reflect the quality of the game. Something isn’t bad just because you don’t like it. Breath of the wild is certainly not bad, or else it wouldn’t have won game of the year, regardless of what you think. At least just stop calling everything you don’t like “bad”. Instead of saying “that game is bad”, say “I dislike that game”. It’s a lot less negative. Or judging by most of your responses you may just have to say “I dislike 99% of the games discussed on these forums”. Just stop being so negative all the time. There are people in #destiny2 more positive than you...

Just my guess.

  • The games that people talk about on this forum for the most part are recent games. That's not going to change, because time isn't necessarily going to stop and loop repeat discussions on the same games that have already been discussed before. Unless there's some porting in effect on the oldies, topics for all the terrific games from previous generations are apparently not on peoples' minds. That and both critics and gamers of today have poor taste. That's not saying this is the first era where the gaming populace has run afoul concerning the majority opinion on certain games being opposite of my own. But as far as the 8th generation goes... it's been more apparent that the games coming out nowadays are most often not meeting expectations like they used to. It's almost as if game developers have stopped trying to impress. I don't know how gamers and especially critics are blind to the faults found in games such as Marvel's Spider-Man. One of my very first impressions of the games released in the 8th generation is that the visuals of modern games come across not much better than they did in the 7th generation. I've had discussions about this before where I was told that instead of having the games leap off the page visually, developers instead decided just to make the technology smooth out the graphics with elements such as better environmental lighting and bigger worlds. From what I've seen of all these games, however, is that even with small details being tweaked, the games themselves look worse than they used to. I'd prefer to soak up the fugliness of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time once again than attempt to tolerate the dismal characters drawn out through Insomniac's pale vision of how Peter Parker, Mary Jane, and others appear in Spider-Man's latest universe. Mind you, I'm not saying that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Marvel's Spider-Man are bad games. But, every time I say something negative, you (and apparently everyone else) acts as though I hate everything just because I didn't say something nice instead. It's not my job to dispense an endless series of pleasantries about every single game. You want to be a mindless drone who thinks every single game out there is awesome? Or would you prefer a wake-up call to find out that not all games are the same (nor should they be)?

  • You literally stated in your initial comment that they were bad games. And if you didn’t it sure seemed liked. Having an opinion different than the majority and expressing it is perfectly fine but the way your doing it is just needlessly negative. I get that you don’t care for newer games but there’s no need to go to every single post about them and just be hateful. I’m just saying you need to lighten up. Or maybe just not comment on posts about games you don’t like?

  • I said nothing of the sort. In my initial comment I said that games such as Marvel's Spider-Man is among a series of games that are letdowns. In other words, it's a game that does not meet high standards. It's not an incredible game. It's not a must-play. Essentially, the game doesn't blow me out of the water. And don't tell me what to do. I'll keep doing what I'm doing for as long as I like. There are way too many games that I buy. Disappointment pops up year after year. 2018 has been one of the better years, however. It's been about five years since the last time there was at least a steadier supply of good games out there in general during the 8th generation.

  • There's no point for me to play older games if I've already played them. I don't keep my older systems around. There's no space to keep anything. I just buy one or more new systems each generation, buy games, trade them, and then buy more. I used to have some harder to find collectible games, but sold them off when the newer systems stopped offering backwards compatibility. Besides, I really don't have the space for all of that stuff. And I'm not wrong about anything. The only renowned games of 2014 (that is of the 8th generation, and not a port) included... well, nothing. What I mean by that is simply there was no game out there I would rate an 8.0 out of 10 or higher. In 2015 the only notable games for that year included Swords and Soldiers II and Yoshi's Woolly World. 2016 delivered the fourth main installment of the Uncharted series, which wasn't bad. Although, the Uncharted series grew less special when online multiplayer functionality made the series less endearing. Paper Mario: Color Splash also made for a fairly good product in 2016. I'd say it was outshone though by The Last Guardian. As much as I like the game, The Last Guardian isn't the best I've seen compared to Fumito Ueda's previous work. Obviously 2017 had yet another Uncharted, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Again, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy makes for a good game... but not one I'd stress as a topnotch work of art like critics would say. Likewise, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gained my pick for Game of the Year. It's a fun game that I spent many hours upon clearing bite-sized dungeons. While interesting and all, I found the story unimpressive, and I prefer having larger dungeons and not having tools break on me all the time. I much preferred playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds in 2013. In my book, it's one of the best games of the 8th generation.

  •
the Uncharted series grew less special when online multiplayer functionality made the series less endearing.
That I agree with. It’s fun and all, but it would’ve been better if it didn’t exist and Naughty Dog focused more on their single player aspect. Like, I think Uncharted 4 would’ve been better if instead of having multiplayer and survival they just fused the game with Lost Legacy and had the latter as an extended campaign. The multiplayer isn’t really needed. But
simply there was no game out there I would rate an 8.0 out of 10 or higher.
The key word there is “I”. Just because you think a game isn’t an 8/10, it doesn’t mean it isn’t. If you really don’t want people getting on your case about your opinions then just word them differently. And why would you want to get rid of all of your old stuff if you have fun playing? I’ve also bought a console and a nintendo handheld each generation and yet I still have my ps2, which I only even use for the original Star Wars: Battlefront 2 because it’s by far my favorite shooter and one of my favorite games in general. Why do you feel the need to buy so many video games anyway? Just buy a few that look interesting to you.

  • It doesn't matter how I phrase something. It's obviously always going to be an opinion. The way you want it is kind of like saying in a discussion, I would be completely unable to say "Metal Gear Solid is a great game." Instead, I'm forced to comment "I think that Metal Gear Solid is a great game" every single time. I'm not narrowing my choices down just because you or other people want me to be repetitive. I don't have space for every single console or platform I've ever owned. If I could own all the systems and keep them intact as well as someone who is a collector of such things, then I would. However, that's not my lot in life. And I really don't care so much about replaying ports of games I've already been through before, unless I'm feeling nostalgic. Sure I've bought and replayed some of my favorites such games as Resident Evil on PlayStation 3 or The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap on Wii U. But I'd much rather concentrate on the games from the generation at hand. This way I'm not stuck in the past all the time, and can actually experience what the generation has to offer in the time I'm given with it. The problem with the 8th generation though is that many of the games are very unappealing. And it's not as though I'm buying hundreds of games at a time. Ever since the 8th generation launched in 2011, I must've bought at least about... 150 or more games, give or take. This includes games for various platforms of the generation, including downloadable games. I usually pick up about 20 to 30 games in a given year, some of which of course has included games not of this generation. In 2015 I purchased the Borderlands collection, for instance. A year later I bought the updated port of Ratchet and Clank on PlayStation 4. I wouldn't really consider that one a remake, as it really wasn't much different from the first game. And since this update is actually a worse game than the original (which obviously is what I think of it), I just shake it off.

And since this update is actually a worse game than the original
That’s actually a fact. 20-30 games a year?! That’s a lot, at least it seems that way to me. How do you have the time to play through all of those? I maybe buy like 5-7 a year and finish like 3-4. And if so many games in the eighth generation are so unappealing, why buy more of them? Wait until something that you think looks good and buy that instead of trying to get everything. Do you feel have to constantly get new games or do you just focus on one game at a time and play nothing else until it’s 100%ed? It seems a bit excessive. I don’t know how you can finish 20 games in a year unless you speedrun all of them... And if that’s just how you express your opinions, I guess I’ll deal with it. I dunno about everyone else though. But it still wouldn’t hurt you to lighten up

  • I don't intentionally burn through games quickly. Although, there's quite a few times where a game is finished before I'd expect it to be. There are times where I intentionally slow down or do something else to avoid having a game done with. Or, in other ways... unintentionally forgetting. One time I played through a large chunk of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion while crouched in every activity I went through. Being that the game is in first-person, I often wondered why I was traversing the world so slowly since I was unable to inspect the character within its fugly universe. For the most part I play through one game at a time. A lot of games aren't enriched with as much content as others. Even the Uncharted games maybe only give me a week or two's worth of content. All that's leftover is the online play after that. I'm not much of a fan for online-based shooters. Even though there are some great times I've had playing stuff like Call of Duty with friends, I usually prefer single-player-only experiences. Many of the games nowadays have been going the way of online, even unecessarily at times. Online multiplayer modes have been outfitted into franchises such as the Mario games, Ratchet and Clank, Resident Evil, The Legend of Zelda, Armored Core, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, and others when of course they haven't always been there at first. Things may not always be end-of-the-world bad, but are these modes really necessary to improve the game? I really don't think every single game needs some sort of competitive feature. And just for a basis of comparison... I much preferred Resistance: Fall of Man's more balanced multiplayer design to the unplayable mess that had 60-player bouts in Resistance 2. Resistance: Burning Skies also provided the lowest points I've had from that series.

I doubt you disliked literally everything about that game. Is there no positives to it at all in your opinion? You managed to say something nice about breath of the wild despite it appearing to be your least favorite game ever. Like, my take on pokemon mystery dungeon: explorers of sky. I couldn’t finish it. The combat was very lackluster and the exploration was slow and boring. Yet despite those things, I liked the story. Just not enough to want to finish the game. Of course you’re going to dislike games a lot more if you focus more on the negatives than the positives. And damn. I kinda wish I can finish games that fast. Though it doesn’t help that I’m pretty much restricted to just gaming on the weekends. I’m too busy during the week

  • I'm just talking about Resistance: Burning Skies in general. I'm saying that overall it offered the weakest point for the series, as all together it makes for a severaly bad game. While the online multiplayer component has your basic team-based shooter attachment, it was probably the highlight of the game. That's not saying much. I'm not here to give a review on every game every single time that I talk about one. When I review games I'll talk about them from every single angle. If I'm talking about them in a forum discussion, I'd rather just convey the point(s) I'm trying to make. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is far from my least favorite game ever. It may be one of the worst games in the Zelda franchise, but there are much worse games out there... including Grand Theft Auto V. When a game is essentially inoperable in a way that the game's controls don't work 100%, I'd deem it as an unplayable catastrophe.
