[b]A new character! Yay![/b] "All right let's get started." Lacy said in her best impression of Cyphan, who gave her a look. Cyphan gestured to the room. "This is the Militia Training Grounds, or MTG. This place is mainly utilized for citizens in training to defend the City. Every now and then however, Guardians are allowed to use it for their own training exercises." She explained. "This place was built after the battle of Twilight Gap. The City's Consensus felt that it was necessary to-" "Shut it! You're ruining the feeling!" An old gruff voice said. "These cupcakes aren't here to be TALKED to death." A Titan dropped down from the floor above them, swinging off the balcony. He was huge, wearing grey on red-camo armor. Everything about the man seemed to be built like a tank, to his enormous shoulder pads and his massive chest plate, to his long Titan Mark that almost touched the floor. He stood up, taking his helmet off to reveal a white bearded face, his hair styled in a receding buzz cut. "They're here to be [i]worked[/i] to death." He finished. "Is he part of the Shaxx fan club or something? Heck, because he could be the club leader." Ralph said. The big Titan pounded his head. "Quite you!" Cyphan sighed. "This is Deputy Commander Louis. He'll be in charge of your...[i]unorthodox[/i] training." "His name is...what?" Shift said, snickering. Louis leaned in, staring him in the face. "My name funny boy?" He seethed. "Is Jaymen, like, your daughter or something?" Ralph said rubbing his head. "Or some beloved protege?" Shift asked. "Jaymen!? Is she here?" Louis said, showing slight excitement. Sobering, he pounded them both. "Definitely related somehow. They have the same punishment system." Toaster said. "Enough you lily-livered frogs! Three laps around the room! Sprint!" Louis booted Ralph into motion and the team ran off. Louis turned to Lacy, he had to crouch down because he was so tall. "Is she here?" "She's grabbing lunch. She'll be here." She said cheerfully. "Bless you, you sweet little bunny rabbit!" He said gratefully, rubbing the top her head. "And you!" He pointed at Cyphan. "I thought I told you to stop it with the history lessons! They bore me!" "[i]I[/i] don't think they're boring..." Cyphan half mumbled. "Ha! You want a history lesson that's entertaining? Tell 'em about that neat shotgun you found! Or that rifle you're holding there! Guns will keep [i]anyone[/i] interested!" Louis said. "Easy for you to say. You keep everyone's attention because you shout every sentence." Lacy reasoned. "I told you already rabbit! Got hearing problems!" He said pointing at his ears. "He's used that excuse since the first time we met him." Cyphan whispered to Lacy as she observed the struggles of Slingshot as they lurched past. Ralph was losing ground, wheezing as he jogged. Louis bent down and yelled at him. "RUN SLOWPOKE! I DON"T WANT TO SEE YOU STOP TILL YOU'RE [i]DEAD[/i]!!" Ralph kicked up again sprinting, breathing even harder. "That's more than likely for all of em." Lacy said. "He went easy on us." "Let's go. Jaymen will have to [i]actually[/i] look for lunch now." Cyphan said and they exited the building. _________________________________________________________ Slingshot had already died four times over when Louis addressed them, informing them that the warm up was over. "Warm up??" Shift protested. "I got impaled on re-bar!" "Shut it marshmallow. This training is to get the handle over your Light. Rescue as already told me some of your feeble attempts to properly use it, but you boys are not even half ready to face the monsters waiting or you on Mars!" Louis said. "We killed two Ogres..." Toaster said. "That's nothing compared to facing a Hive Knight of the same size. You'd be cut like a loaf of bread before you could even scream bloody murder!" Louis outstretched his arm, and fire lit up his gauntlet. A loud [i]clang[/i] shook the air and Louis brandished a fiery hammer. His body was covered in Solar energy as he showed it off. "This is my Hammer of Sol." Louis said. He chucked it across the room spinning, and a concrete structure (with shred of Shift's cloak on it) shattered and crumbled when the hammer detonated. Slingshot turned back to Louis as he summoned another. "My job here is to teach you how to use your own Light like this." "To throw hammers?" Ralph asked. "No! To have an ultimate trump card to use against the enemy! Once you birdies wield your powers well enough, you'll be able to make the dead shiver with your might!" He dismissed his hammer with a flash, and folded his arms. "Now show me what you can do with your Light so far, and we'll see how far you have to go." Slingshot took turns, incinerating training dummies, imploding walls, and electrocuting machinery. Louis nodded as they demonstrated what they could control, as if taking internal notes. "Seems you three have had a tad of battle experience. You've got the basics down." Louis said grinning. "Rescue was telling the truth then. You tad-pols are ready to give it a shot." Louis cupped his hands and shouted to the workers through-out the facility. "Things are gonna heat up in here! Keep you're heads down!" The employees quickly vacated the area, with mixed looks of fright and excitement. Louis turned back to Slingshot. "Now give each other plenty of space for this. Chances are that one of you just might, oh I don't know. Blow up." "Wait-what?" Shift asked. "Gather all of the energy you can stand to hold! Suck it in!" One by one, with signs of hesitation, Slingshot scrunched their eyes and focused, teeth clenched. "More! MORE!!" Louis roared. The air began to heat up and crackle. Toaster began glowing first, a purple aura began to surround him. "That's it! MORE!" Louis shouted again. Ralph began arching lighting, bolts of electricity creating the smell of ozone in the air. Shift joined them abruptly, flames jumping to life, heating up the stone around him until they shared colors. "Focus Fireteam! Maintain the power! Dial back!" Louis instructed. The glows softened, contained to the skin of the members of Slingshot, who were breathing heavily from strain. They opened their eyes, looking at themselves, then to Louis. They smiled, teeth showing. "Congrats team! You did it!" Louis said. He became confused with the silence. "What?" ______________________________________________________________ Rescue began speed walking, paper bags holding burgers and fries. Loud booms and flashes had been emanating from the training area, and the citizens were uneasy. They threw open the doors and Lacy, who thankfully wasn't holding any food, was instantly vaporized from a Sentinel Shield as it bounced pass. Jaymen and Cyphan were froze dumbstruck for a fraction of a second before they dived out of they way of a Dawn-Strike, which came screeching down, creating a plume of fire where they had been standing. Lacy came back to life and joined them as they watched Slingshot chase Louis around the room. The crazy Guardian was laughing as he dodged and weaved, able to throw the occasional hammer at Ralph as he gave chase. Shift hung high in the air, grinning like a madman as he continued the rain of fire, shooting down whenever a hammer was thrown at him. Toaster mostly just guarded himself hiding behind his shield. But he too was smiling as he charged into Louis and bashed him across the face, flinging him into Ralph who finished him off. Jaymen tossed her bag to Cyphan, who barely caught it. "ENOUGH!!" Jaymen shouted, furious, she slammed into the center of the room, Arc coils creating a massive shock wave around her. Slingshot turned their attention on Jaymen out of sheer reaction, and turned her into a rainbow of death as their attacks collided into her. They stopped, realizing what happened as Louis came back. They looked around the room sheepishly. "How long have you been doing this!?" Cyphan demanded. Toaster shrugged. "Ten-twenty minutes? Maybe?" He said. Jaymen revived and lifted Ralph off the ground by his collar. "We've been gone for TWO HOURS." "It was fun." Shift said. "Oo! is that lunch?" He asked. "Yeah, we brought hamburgers!" Lacy said, Cyphan glared at her, but she didn't see. "Ah! Bless you rabbit!" Louis said. "I thought they'd never stop!" "Yeah, trust me." Ralph said, still held off the ground by Jaymen. "We didn't want to stop." "But... food." Toaster said. "Oh, yeah I almost forgot!" Ralph said trying to wiggle out of Jaymen's grasp. Failing he sighed. "Please?" She sighed and let go of him, and they dug into the slightly singed bags to claim their burgers. [b]Lots of fun to write.
