Dead Cabal were spread across the floor, smoking and leaking fluids from their suits. "Good timing. I just got the door open!" Jab said as Lacy stood protectively near her Ghost. "The elevator works?" Toaster asked. "Yes Toaster, it's working now." Artifact said patiently, hovering lazily over his shoulder. "Finally. I feel like I'm going to melt." Ralph said. "You were relaxing in that bench the whole time!" Jaymen pointed out. "Yeah, exactly! Do you know how hard it is to sit up after doing that?" "Shut up Ralph." Shift said. "Let's just get in the elevator." "An elevator?? Say no more!" Ralph said, dashing in. Slingshot moved to join him, Ghost's disappearing. "Hey! We're not done!" Lacy said pointing at Cabal reinforcements. "Sure we are, we just all get in the elevator and leave the space turtles behind. They forget us and we forget them." Shift said, pushing a button, then held down another button. "Hurry, I have no idea if the "Hold the door" button actually works." Lacy jumped in and Jaymen and Cyphan reluctantly joined, shots from the Cabal ricocheting off of nearby objects near the elevator as they stepped in backwards. Rescue continued shooting while Slingshot stood as if nothing was wrong as the door to the oversize elevator shut slowly, and began to descend. "See?" Shift said. "Not a problem." The elevator made a large screeching noise as a series of loud bangs came from above. The floor shook for a few seconds before the lights went dark. A loud thump let them know something heavy hit the roof. Moments later, the facility's backup generators activated, overhead lights dimly lighting the room. The group removed their helmets. "You were saying, Shift?" Cyphan said. "Moron." "We have to get out, Lacy help me with the door." Jaymen ordered quickly. They tugged unsuccessfully and Jaymen looked around for alternative answers. "Cyphan check the ceiling. See if there's a hatch you can find." Cyphan located the emergency exit, and shoved against it to no avail. "Whatever hit the roof during the fall was big, it's not budging." She reported breathing heavily. Jaymen sighed, racking her brain. "Okay, we could try getting Slingshot to- Slingshot?" "Standard procedure?" Ralph asked Toaster. "You did bring them just in case right?" "Always. Artifact doesn't let me forget." Toaster said, reaching into his back pouch and pulling out a deck of cards. "Black Jack?" Shift said sitting down. "I'll need a reminder of how to play though." "Nah, not this time...hmm. How about Dummkopf?" Ralph suggested. "Let's go with that." Toaster said, beginning to shuffle and deal the cards. "No cheating with Ghosts this time though." "Great, so the rules are clear?" Shift asked. "Crystal." Ralph answered. They all gathered around in a circle on the floor. "[i]What are you doing?[/i]" Jaymen asked loudly. Slingshot turned their heads to see her, still sitting criss-cross style. "Taking some down time. We could be stuck here a while." Ralph said. "This is no time to play games!" Cyphan reasoned. "Sure it is. We're stuck here so we might as well sit back for a bit." Shift said. "We can fit more players if you want to join." Toaster said, gesturing as he dealt the cards. "No. No, no. No. NO. NO!" Jaymen said stomping over until she hung above them, fists clenched. "We've got to get out of here and you are going to help!" She said angrily pointing. Toaster deflated and gathered his cards, putting them away. "What? No,Toaster! Bring em back!" Ralph said. "She might ruin them if we continue..." Toaster said. "Argh! Why are you people like this?" Shift said angrily. "Us?? What about [i]you?[/i]" Cyphan demanded. "All you guys care about in a time of crisis is playing a [i]card game![/i]" "So get up and help us." Lacy said. "Before Jaymen breaks our bones I suppose." Ralph said. "Come on, Shift. There's no use in arguing." "I still hate them, but I hate broken bones and death more." Shift said, standing. Lacy noticeably wilted. "Major General!" He said mock saluting. "Ready for hand to hand combat with the elevator Ma'am!" "Yeah, yeah make your jokes Shift." Jaymen said. "Whatever makes you feel better." "Don't Shift. I know what you want to say and I'm begging you." Ralph said. "I don't want to be collateral damage." Shift grumbled under his breath,Toaster stood nervously, Ralph still sat, hands held, resting on his knee. "Alright you pieces of garbage. Door. Pull it open." Jaymen said pointing at the door. They all got up and tugged furiously, the door creaked and cracked, and on both sides it began to bend, and they revealed stone on the other side, scraped and solid. Jaymen pointed to the roof next. "Emergency Hatch." They gathered and boosted Toaster up. He pushed and shoved until he opened it, and barely managed to get out of the way as a Cabal body fell in, a Hive sword deep in its gut with with a forearm still clinging to it. Cabal blood mixed with the suit's oil covered the floor, a rancid smell filling the room. Jaymen looked up through the opening, if you could call it that. Numerous bodies, Cabal and Hive, were piled on top of them. Jaymen sighed and looked around at the puddle. "Clean it." She ordered. Slingshot got right to work, scrubbing and finding anyway they possibly could to get rid of it. They succeeded, but the smell remained. Jaymen continued to tell them what to do with what ideas she had until she had exhausted them and Slingshot, who sat tiredly against the wall, filthy from the work. "You guys have any ideas?" Jaymen asked her teammates. Cyphan looked at her feet and Lacy remained silent. She sat angrily down. "Useless." Shift nudged Ralph and they shared a look. Ralph stood up and cracked his neck, he marched over to Jaymen who looked up at him. "What? I don't suppose you have any ideas, you lazy son of a she-Dreg-" Ralph slugged her with all his might across the jaw. Rescue gasped audibly, Lacy covering her mouth. The force of the punch shook Jaymen so much that she flopped to the ground, caught utterly and completely off guard. "That, more or less, was my idea." Ralph said. Jaymen could only stare in shock. Toaster was sharing the sentiment, only he had chosen to curl up covering his eyes and preparing for the worst. Ralph dusted himself off, looking dignified even through the muck covering him from head to toe. He then positioned himself in front of the elevator door as Jaymen regained composure, face purple from fury. She staggered up and lurched over, fist raised. It began to crackle with Arc Light as Ralph stood like a statue. She roared and threw the punch and Ralph reacted calmly, cocking his head to dodge the missile. It went straight through the stone wall and shattered the supports behind it the rest of the wall crumbling as Ralph stepped backwards, bowed, and turned of his heel towards the stairs on the opposite side of the room. Shift showed Toaster what happened, before he happily got up and hopped through the opening. Shift strolled by Jaymen who stood, fist frozen as she gaped. "Nice punch." He walked to the stairs and began ascending, close behind Toaster. Rescue didn't move for thirty straight minutes. Jaws hanging and blood vessels popping out in their foreheads with suprised anger.
