Following the standards of Hive relgious structure and ritual, they are the appointed instruments to bring about the final shape of the universe. This is well understood. They are driven by the hungering worms that infect their beings and thus compelled to commit violence and take the lives of the unfit. If we use any of the established events and BoS information that we've been given to date, we understand that the violence must be tithed to allow for continued survival. The Hive, for reasons, ended up on Mars and, for other reasons, targeted Rasputin. I will make two points here. 1. I'm still not sure why Rasputin was the target. When Ommigul and Sardon invaded earth it was apparent that they were the heralds of Crota and needed to make way for their respective mate and prince. The Hive on Mars are just kind of there. Sure they could be retaliating for the "Siberian Entroy Protocol," but this doesn't fit their motivation. Oryx was scolded for letting his fatherly love and rage get in the way of carrying out his dark commission. Why would the Hive even bother fighting against a machine that won't benefit their end goal. 2. Oryx, Xivu, and Savathun all have tithers. The Hive work on this principle. Its understood. They cannot continue without it. We dont see any prominent Hive threat on Mars until Escalation Protocol. Where were these big bastards during the Guardian's assault? Thalnok stepped out of the Court to make it apparent that we weren't in Kansas anymore. We made our way into the Dreadnaught and he showed his face...ready to stand his ground. He had a purpose and he made it clear. The lore tabs make it clear that the Hive are mentally very sharp and quick witted, yet they are being manipulated to one geographical spot by Rasputin. Technically two, but you get my point. We saw no preliminary defenses from the Deafening Blasts, Giant Ogres, or anything prior to just fighting the head of this radical Hive breakaway sect. Where are the tithers ro Nokris? Where is the end goal even hinted at? Sure we baited them with the shard of the Traveler but if it was covered with Taken energy, shouldn't Taken have been pursuing it? Shouldn't the other assumed Ascendant Hhlive have showed up in the Strange Terrain mission? We saw kneeling supplicants, but this has no real purpose. What violence do they tithe? Red Legion stragglers? Maybe. But this isn't good enough. We jumped straight from frozen Thrall to Xol. He has enough knowledge to run from Yul, but ran the risk of fighting us head on.
