The biggest reason I feel is that there is no point to D2. The thrill of chasing OP loot through dozens of raid runs has been neutered. Whether it was it was hard to balance PvP around kickass exotics, or to appeal to players who don’t have the time to invest, the loot has grown watered down and become easier to obtain. At this same point in D1, there were only a few ways to get exotics right? Nightfall, the two raids, random drops or the exotic bounties. Now there are the random drops, clan rewards, PvP rewards, individual rewards, the raid and a half, and the planetary exotic quests. Forever 29 incentivized people to play, max power after a week and bored clearly doesn’t.
