Question:
Have we ever figured out entirely what the Heart of the Black Garden was? I’ve heard theories a while ago, like it’s a shard of The Darkness, kinda like there’s a shard of the Traveler.
Also, why did the Vex even care about it? What was it supplying to them that they decided to keep it around?
Perhaps it was just an idol for them. Like they had to obey it.

This is backed up by something in Ikora's Journal where she talks about the Taken. [quote]Oryx wields this power. But Oryx did not make it. We face the same flower we met in the Black Garden.[/quote] Oryx gained the power to Take directly from the Deep/Darkness not the worms.
