I’ll never understand people who pay/subscribe to watch someone else play a game

I'll never understand why people pay to watch someone else play a sport. Same principle
-
Not the same thing but I get what you’re trying to point out.
-
How is it not the same thing? You are choosing to watch someone play a game instead of playing one yourself. You are choosing to watch someone play (for example) basketball instead of playing it yourself.
-
The difference is you’re paying to watch the best of the best play their game, the experience of the game and its fans, the sense that they are playing for you and the city they are playing in(pride). This does not apply to watching someone from an electronic devise play a game. The person playing a video game isn’t doing it for you, they are doing simply for money or subscriptions.
-
Eh... Local sports get televised all the time. It isn’t just professionals. The only difference is that the athletes themselves aren’t the ones getting paid.
-
True but besides what a network pays to a league, by watching TV you aren’t directly paying for the same experience as going to a game live and paying.
-
No, what you are paying for is to be entertained, athletes are just entertainers, and they aren't doing it for you either, they are doing for the money as well. They wouldn't be switching teams if they weren't getting getting paid more in one form or another. Streamers are the same, they are just entertainers. Of course they are in it for the money, streaming is their job.

Bearbeitet von Pale Horse Ridr: 1/5/2018 10:48:22 PMOne, it’s the perceived notion they are playing for their fans and for that city (whether they are doing it for personal reason or not). Two, I can’t just go play in front of thousands of people with the best players in the world at that sport. Any joe blow can create a stream and have people watch it whether they are good or not, if they suck they better be entertaining then. You can’t do that in sports. I can simply go out and buy the exact same game as the streamer is showing and stream it myself. Thirdly, you are paying for the atmosphere of the event, not sitting in your room or in front of a computer. I get what you’re saying but this is apples and oranges comparison. Edit: Very few streamers can consider it a career or job, most are too lazy to get an actual job so they beg for people to watch so they don’t have to do anything in real life
-
I have never seen someone watch a streamer because they are good at the game outside of speedrunners, 90 something percent of the time people are watching for the personality, not the game they are playing. I also knew you were going to bring up that last argument at some point. You wouldn't go up to a comedian and say they need a different job because telling jokes isn't hard, being entertaining is a skill. Same goes for streamers.
-
Bearbeitet von Pale Horse Ridr: 1/6/2018 8:25:27 PMNo you would tell a comedian to not quit their day job when they suck. We’re not talking about a hand full of streamers, we’re talking about the thousands and thousands that try to stream thinking they have what it takes to make it as a streamer; most do not. Still the big difference is anyone can do it, whether they will be successful is another story. Maybe you find watching some guy/girl talk at their computer screen/console entertaining; I don’t see the entertainment value in it. As for my last point, am I not correct? Look at how many spam forums begging people to subscribe to their channel. How many countless gamer girls just wear something, for lack of a better word, slutty just to make dumbass thirsty boys subscribe

You can't single out just streaming for having people trying to make it who don't have what it takes. Every facet of the entertainment industry has those people. There are the people who think they have what it takes to be an athlete but they don't, people who think they are funny but aren't, and people who think they can sing but can't.

I’m not but we are talking about watching streamers after all. I said I don’t get why anyone would watch when they could go and play the game themselves. You brought up professional athletes, which was apples and oranges comparison.
