This decision is appalling, when I purchased the game it was in no way advertised on the packaging that any of the content in the base game would be locked out at a later date and, in order to access any of that content again I would need to pay for it a second time. How you can justify charging players twice for the same content is baffling. Does this mean every time "new content" is released I will need to buy it in order to access the original content I had access to when I first bought the game?
This information would have certainly influenced my decision to purchase the game; this to me seems purely about cheating the consumer out of money, almost a form of bribery and completely dishonest.
If any one at Bungie actually reads this, I would appreciate their assistance in seeking a refund for my purchase. Fat chance of that I imagine.

1. They did this all the time in D1 2. It’s $20. You can’t afford $20? If not you probably have bigger problems than video game drama.

Yep, with every new expansion to destiny, older content will be locked away due to the power levels raising. It is and is not a subscription service all at once. It's a terrible business practice in my opinion. The next expansion will do the same thing. If you've played destiny 1, this should be of no surprise to you, if this your first destiny game, I'm sorry for you, cause Bungie is going to keep asking you to open your wallet if you want to keep playing the new crap.

I have a busy life and game should be at the players pace. I haven't gotten to finish season 1 yet. Now locked out. What the hell? I paid to be able to play the whole game. Not to get locked out. There should be a way to keep play season 1 the toggle to the next season when your done. And the storyline sucked as all he'll. It read like a rushed ending that didn't know where It was going.

im sorry did you play Destiny 1 ?? they did this same thing with Every Expanison / DLC for that as well , same road map , which is why i purchases a pass for it . cuz i knew from the first game , if your bitching now because you thought it would be Different seeing it worked for Bungie in the past?? why would they change that dynamic ??

except for the parts where they DIDNT raise the vault of glass for crota, and they DIDNT raise the cap for vault of glass & crota for taken king. it was waaaayyyy after the game had been out for years before those got bumped up, and that was pretty much when D2 got announced so people would stay in D1 buying eververse

I didn't play destiny 1 until the taken King was released so wasn't aware of what their road map was and had pretty much stopped playing by the time the last expansion was released. Regardless if had known or not, people who are paying £45+ for a product shouldn't have to assume anything about it, the company should be up front and honest about their intentions, they may have decided to change their approach (unlikely I know), there are lots of examples of games/businesses that make lots of money and don't lock people out of content they previously had access to. At the end of the day, I bought destiny 2 and could access and play everything in the game now part of the product I paid for is unaccessible unless I pay for it again. I don't care if they change their dynamic or not, they can do what they like (most people do), I just think to deny someone something they have already paid for is a shitty way to do business and treat people, you wouldn't accept it from a restaurant or a clothes shop or for any other transaction, why is acceptable in this situation?

If you purchased the base game of Destiny 1 you could still play VoG on each difficulty. If you got Dark Below you could still play CE on each difficulty. Same with HoW and PoE. Even when upgrading to TTK you could still play the old content without getting the new expansion. This is the first time you cannot play something you paid for prior. This situation is entirely different. Being unable to play new content because of an expansion is understandable. Having content taken away is ludicrous.

When TDB dropped they made the nightfall the Omni gull strike for almost every nightfall for months so that players who didn't have the dlc couldn't play the nightfall. When HOW dropped it was the same thing, but since players made some noise about it they at least made sure to have a vanilla strike as the nightfall every other week. Then TTK dropped and Bungie went full. Any players who did not get TTK could not play a nightfall at all they were taken away. Same with Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner both were also taken away. Also you no longer could play heroic strikes those were also taken away. You could no longer play vanguard strikes at your light level those were also taken away. And you could no longer choose the difficulty for story missions that too was taken away. There was one crucible playlist you could play, but the others were all taken away. I know because I had pre ordered Destiny with the season pass and never got TTK. I recently played Destiny 1 and it's still the same. Sorry but this is not the first time Bungie has done this.

I distinctly remember the Destiny community complaining CONSTANTLY about how VOG was not "brought up to the current light level". As in....D1 players who bought the D1 expansions were griping that Vanilla content was NOT locked behind the DLC paywall. They still had access to it....and so did the Vanilla players. They just could not get any useful gear out of it. For D2 Bungie decides to scale everything up as they update the game.....and what do you know....people are complaining again. SIGH

Yes ....... but why didn’t they just leave prestige at 300 for the vanilla players. Why wasn’t there Osiris prestige as opposed to taking away they should have added .

They could have easily scaled it up and left the legacy versions. Seriously they did it to every raid, and PoE in Age of Triumph.

i beg to differ, with during D1 you got locked out of alot of Daily events if you didn't have the current expansion , since they were taking place in or near the new DLC areas , i know that for sure cuz that what got me to buy a Expansion pass during D1 cuz i had no content i could do outside of replaying story or just patrols which was difficult for some of them . so when the first DLC launched for D1 you got nerfed to what you could play granted you could do VOG but everything else that was non story content was locked to you cuz every daily was geared towards them for months , and the world events where geared towards the new power level for the expansion as well which means while you could interact you had a harder time in trying to do older patrols and things .

This seems easy to fix to me . In Osiris we have extra Osiris playlist for crucible . Why didn’t bungie implement a system that had both options in the director , vanilla players couldn’t use the Osiris option . That was dlc users can go into either list and the vanilla players keep going as they were . This could be applied to iron banner, nightfall and strikes . This way nobody loses anything and bungie wouldn’t have created yet another disaster .

Ah, alright well that context is eye opening. However expecting a developer to make changes and fixes when they are promised isn't unreasonable. I don't exactly think comsumers, especially people new to the franchise should be expected to have their product taken away from them in less than 3 months. The blame should be rested solely on the devs and publishers shoulders.

This is not the first time they've done this. They locked people out with level / light caps with DLC in D1 starting with Taken King, and did it again with Rise of Iron. I'm not saying this is right, I'm just pointing out they did this in D1.

Thank you for the context, I wasn't aware of those details. I'll say then that the situation us similar, however people should still be able to complain that promises weren't kept, and new players shouldn't be blamed for not doing research into a videogames extensive past. Bungie and Activision are still to blame for the current mess, and I think they took it another step too far.

I think at a bare minimum, it should have been made clear at game launch that high level activities (Prestige Raid and Nightfall) would require the purchase of expansions in order to retain access. Including level caps in DLC has been done by other games before, but as far as I know, Destiny is the only game that has ever locked current content behind new level caps.

I agree with you there. They should have made consumers aware that they had planned on limiting content a few months later.

Think of it as a subscription fee except you don't pay it every month but every time a new dlc is released and only certain content increased in power level. Everything else is still there to play without the need of the expansion. Sounds fair to me.
