Energy weapon bracket is redundant while power weapon bracket is orphaned

when I started the game, i didn't cared much for this issue, because I never played d1 and this setup was given, it was cool to have rifle in kinetic and pistol in energy, and switch between them according to the feel or terrain requirement. but as i got little more experienced in the game, I started to gravitate towards specific weapons and ignoring others. i realized that sidearms, pulse rifles and sub-machine guns are inferior to scouts and autos, and hand cannons are good on individual basis ('sunshot' and 'better devils' are good, all the rest are situational). moreover, today i am usually wielding two weapons of the same type that fit my play-style , on the warlock i use nameless midnight and mananaan two superior exploding scouts, on my titan i use origin story and uriels gift with the reloading chest, and on the hunter i tend to use sunshot and another hand cannon with the lucky panties (don't have better devils yet) because that how they play... and that made me thinking, what is the point of the energy weapon? all i use them is for "double magazine" for my weapon of choice. shields? give me a break... i shoot the shield with what i currently have in my arms, and preferably fusion or rocket launcher. i have never ever thought to myself "[i]wait a minute, this guy has yellow shield, time to switch to solar energy gun[/i]" i can melt the shield with the kinetic auto or the scout with explosive payload much faster that it will take me to open inventory choose the appropriate energy type weapon and shoot the shields. both kinetic and energy weapons are "brooms" they are only here to take out the trash. and we don't need two "brooms" so the energy bracket is de-facto useless. on the other side, the power weapon is orphaned. most of them are situational but if you switch between them you are depleting ammo. at the beginning I came to conclusion that grenade launchers and snipers are inferior type of power weapons. they are both very risky to use with low gain, extremely situational purpose and very low ammo. I love swords, they are the better kind of shotguns. they are very powerful at close range against weak and medium enemies and have lots of ammo, but they are bad against bosses because bosses tend to step on you in close range killing you instantly. so i thought why should i waste my power weapon slot for weapon, no matter how good it is, but against weak enemies? as i already have two "brooms". so i gravitated towards fusion rifles and rocket launchers, fusion rifles for regular bosses and rocket launchers for difficult bosses or huge piles of enemies in one spot. and never went back to other types of power weapons, mainly [b]because if i switch to other power weapon depending on the situation i lose most of my power ammo[/b]. that leaves a very narrow choice of weapons in the game. so , how can we fix that situation without going back to the d1 setup?(lots of people love it, but apparently bungie devs decided against it, so we have to work from here) a) make kinetic weapons completely useless against shields, useless like in "immune", the non matching energy types will do 50%-30% damage, while matching energy types will do 200% damage. b) make sidearms pulses and subs more useful in PVE, let sub-machine guns have more maximal ammo reserves. if i use sidearm i should be able to punch and shoot the alien scum in the face at the same time without handling time. pulse rifles should do more damage to be competitive with autos or scouts. c) don't deplete power ammo on switching power weapon !!!. d) on the less used power weapons, increase the max ammo reserves by 50% and increase ammo gain from purple box by 50%, for example scout rifles should have max ammo of 21 (up from 14) and each blue box will load 5 bullets instead of 3. i think these changes will make better use of energy and power weapons.

  • If your running 2 scout rifles or 2 auto rifles (of the same archetype) or 2 hand canons of course your going to think what is the point of switching to my energy weapon. Because there is hardly any difference between them. The best way to equip your load out is for the weapons to complement each other and not be exactly the same as each other. For example if you have a scout rifle in the kinetic slot then a close range energy weapon would complement it, something like a sidearm. I'm not defending this new system, personally I find it boring as hell and would give anything to go back to primary, secondary and heavy. But it is what it is.
