There should be an in game codex - like your guardian's "journal" so you can look up stuff you have scanned and have a record. I can't imagine what lore buffs and creators have to do to piece together information based on actual in game lore anymore. The out of game grimoire was fine it gave so much depth to the game and like a lot in D2 - a lot from D1 that should have carried over is gone. Dead ghosts would have been a great story and narrative opportunity. So many guardians lost so many Ghosts gone, we could have had so many to find and stories to tell "This was ______'s ghost they fell trying to help civilians escape when the red legion attacked" "this was ____'s ghost" - and it could include lore and speculation, like they saw something or have information before they fell. Speculation, Intrigue. You know, Lore. Maybe even find ghosts that can be repaired and maybe their guardian would rise again or they might find another - IDK - something. The end of the campaign is like OK the Traveler is awake... and ? Nothing. The loss of lore and grimoire in Destiny has killed the intrigue and the sense of connection to a larger and more complex setting. It leaves D2 feeling less like a sequel but a ham-handed expansion; but an expansion where you discard the game you are continuing from.

Dude i feel literally the exact same way. I had a post a few months ago that was a grimoire system but it was run by Asher (since hes kinda forgettable and thats his thing) I really hope Bungie realizes that not having grimoire is making it hard for us lore fans.

After scouring the worlds of D2 to discover all the scannables, I have come to the conclusion that they wouldn't be worth collecting in a codex. Most of them don't say much more than "look at this weird thing, I wonder it does/means?" It is a real shame. I dread the upcoming dlc since I no longer have faith Bungie is capable of writing a believable, compelling universe. Poor Osiris. I wonder how they'll mess up his story?

100% believe Grimoire should still be a thing, be accessible on the app and bungie.net [i]and[/i] in the game itself via a Grimoire section in menus. Absolute travesty that it's not like this. I also believe D1 cards should be in there to read as well. I think bungie decided to bury the Grimoire, I think I know why and to a certain extent I get it, but it's just a total cop-out. 1- Copy the Mass Effect in-game codex. 2- Add dead ghosts back into the game. They're yet another thing that shouldn't have been removed.

While it's a little disappointing that it's gone with no codex or anything, but I like the references and whatnot. The hints about past enemies and their return and stuff like that.

I really miss it. Didn't mind the grind. The cards were gun to read, packed with lore, and I had something to grind for. There's absolutely nothing to grind for in D2. They need to bring back grimoire, but have it on a site and also in an in game menu you can read any time. You should also get some kind of cool reward for unlocking cards.
