I actually have a logical reason for why we should be seeing the old D1 knights instead of the sleek new ones we have now. For acolytes and Thrall, it makes sense that their plating would be smooth and insectoid because they havent seen much battle, but one only becomes a Knight after fighting for hundreds of years. Knights should be beaten to shit, rugged and covered in spikes. It makes no sense to see a smooth insectoid Knight, unless they were made a Knight without seeing battle, which defies the Sword Logic. I... just thought i would nerd out a bit.
