The way the game currently stands, you can only have 1 of either a rocket launcher, a grenade launcher, a sword, a fusion rifle, a shotgun, or a sniper. Right now though, you would be stupid to use anything but a rocket launcher with cluster bombs, Merciless, Wardcliffe coil or a sword if you're attempting anything seriously. Moving the old special weapons to the heavy slot was very divisive amongst the community and I think it hasn't been entirely for the best when it comes to shotguns and to an extent snipers.
Fusions are actually decent tbh, I like them as power weapons in their current state and Merciless is a great weapon. Snipers are really underwhelming, they don't damage as much as they did in D1 and their reserves suck. If they boost the ammo reserves and slightly raise the damage of snipers across the board then they could be viable as a power weapon. But shotguns are just not worth using. They don't deal high enough damage to warrant over a launcher/merciless/sword, so what's the point of putting them in the game? Legend of Acrius is a beast and is the only shotgun worthy of the power weapon slot, but no one would use it for serious endgame play. Most bosses have an AoE effect so it is pointless to equip a shotgun in endgame PvE and it would only gimp your dps.
Simply put, they aren't thriving as power weapons. Every gun should be viable in this game, there will always be a meta and a best loadout but shotguns are just not worth using in PvE or PvP. Why have a shotgun when all you need for the Leviathan is Curtain Call? Same goes for PvP. If they're moved to the secondary slot they will become viable for beating shielded and yellow bar foes in PvE, as for PvP it wouldn't fit in with the slow crucible play now but it would be a step to taking PvP away from this teamshotting sweatfest. Unless they do something completely ridiculous and give shotguns similar dps potential to a launcher then they won't ever be viable as power weapons (Except for Acrius and maybe Hawthorne's) so in my opinion they should be returned to the secondary slot.
P.S, Bring back heavy machine guns please, I miss my Thunderlord :(

I don't see heavy MG's returning, simply due to lack of balancability, if that's a word. Shotguns and swords require closeness, fusions require charge time, snipers require precision, grenades require multiple hits, and rockets only hold two shots. MG's would allow for PvP rampages, like the ones that got me Reign of Terror medals. I could see shotguns as kinetics, though they'd have to reduce impact or pellet count; have damage max at 11/pellet or 132 overall. They would have to at least be two-shot killers, three at even short distance. Otherwise they're OP.

Bearbeitet von Rufas-1: 11/21/2017 4:53:29 PMIts fine to have shotguns and snipers in the power slot, which is where all one-hit-kill weapons belong. I actually love this change as it really helps to promote gun skill in PvP instead of "who fires first wins". I use Hawthorne's all the time in the raid, its a beast and I usually do not have any issues with running out of power ammo. Maybe its because I just done use them, but I do think snipers need a damage buff for PvE because they just don't feel powerful at all. If snipers did more damage then the lower ammo reserves really wouldn't be an issue. EDIT: If all you are using in the raid is Curtain Call then maybe you just need to switch things up a bit to make it more interesting and challenging? After all, you are allowed to use whatever weapons you want.

Nope. One shots can stay in the heavy slot.
-
Bring weapon balancing back to the house of wolves era, buff autos because they sucked during that time. Destiny crucible is fun again, hand cannons work, and most meta weapons have a counter.
-
Why? So Hawthorns can be nerfed?
-
You can have 2 grenade launchers if you equip Fighting Lion.
lmfao
wow! Acrius shotgun in the secondary/energy slot? Nothing wrong with this idea I swear lol! yeah its not going to break PVP in anyway. Please do this BUNGIE!!! /s

Really? I use Good Bone Structure in PvP Trials lol

Shotguns, fusions, and snipers. -blam!- pvp....again
-
no. give double current spare ammo capacity in PvE, then shotguns will be a very common DPS choice when closer ranges permit. PvP doesnt need to become a game of who fired first wins.
-
uhh, shotguns are pretty easy to use in this game, and usually give me more kills than a rocket would from one heavy drop. I feel that if any power weapons were to get a buff, it needs to be snipers.

Shotguns give me far more kills than a rocket.

Move to primary. I'd give my left boot for a gnasher.

I agree with TC: the new weapon system is the main reason I skipped Destiny 2 (I did participate in the Beta). As someone who mainly plays PVE, and has 0% interest in competitive PVP, I dislike the new system. I really liked the weapon classes we had in Destiny 1 (which is why I continue playing it instead), since the special weapons tend to be powerful, but have a significant drawback that doesn’t make universally useful as heavy weapons (such as usable range for shotguns and sniper rifles, shot charge time for fusion rifles, etc.). Having to juggle with those kind of pros and cons made things fun and entertaining, while the new system makes things more boring by having two of the more generic weapon types for doing most of the work, while all outstanding/different weapon types are in the same slot and sharing the same ammo pool. Also: I love my pulse rifles! In a game with a futuristic setting like this is a kinda disappointing that the majority of the available weapons are quite similar to what could be made with today’s technology. Thankfully we do get a class of Golden Age gun in the form of pulse rifles. The charge mechanic certainly helps them stand out apart from traditional guns, so they definitely filled that niche quite well (Honorable mention goes to Omolon for giving us a few beam guns out of other typical weapon classes). Moving on, even for PVP, which I play mainly for fun (well, also daily/weekly legendary marks), special weapons makes things more chaotic and entertaining when you also throw in more common use of abilities (Titan shoulder charge, Hunter invisibility, etc.) which makes Destiny stand out from generic shooters. Mayhem matches are my favorite given how truly chaotic everything becomes. I read that someone described Destiny 2’s PVP as being balanced but boring, which can be considered the opposite of Destiny 1. Even changes not specific to PVP, such as the fixed rolls are another way to balance things in the game at the cost of making them less exciting (specially given the constant complains I’ve read from duplicate drops). Personally I prefer the the game that feels unbalanced, but entertaining, rather than the one that is very balanced, but monotonous.

Well for pve yes Pvp no

Shotguns have really good DPS against the dogs in the raid. Their potential damage isnt really the problem. Check out dattos old video on it.
-
no This is much better
-
No thanks, and this is coming from a shotty freak in D1. I think most of my weapon kills came from shotguns in PVP, mainly Invective/The Next Big Thing, I might add. The problem is that shotguns were a huge part in why D1 PVP was so f'd up(everyone cried about them being too overpowered and too much ammo, camping around corners, insane range). So I would only assume that if they moved them back to secondary slots then we would revert back to how D1 was after ROI and IMO it was SH*T....
-
Hell no, if shot guns where in the second slot again, PVP would go back to the d1 shotgun meta rubbish.
-
I disagree. I actually like to use Shotguns in both PvE and PvP. The large Damage/Range increase they got since being moved to a Power weapon makes them hit a lot farther than they did in D1. Hawthorne's Field Forged and Legend of Acrius are capable of surprising amounts of damage.
-
Nope. It is perfect how it is. Im very happy people like you can’t run around with shotgun/sniping ammo all match.
-
Moving the old special weapons to the heavy slot was very divisive amongst the community.
It's only divisive amongst those that enjoyed their ease of use and running around with nothing but those weapons in PvP. Anyone else with intelligence saw the balance issues. Bungie made the right decision. Now that being said I think Snipers and Shotguns deserve a little more love in that they could use an ammo reserve increase and maybe, maybe a slight damage buff. Those changes would make them more interesting for PvE. Otherwise they're fine.
-
NO. You seem to forget that the sniper and shotty one-hit BS is WHY we have this dumb weapon load out now. All of PVE has been relegated to running around with two primaries. for the SAKE of no more shotgun slide warriors or back-map campers. in PVP. So NO. Just no.
