Unbalance the game for a personal connection

I see a lot of negativity on the boards, but I still find myself enjoying the game a lot. However the one thing that is missing is "MY GUN". "MY GUN" in destiny 1 was a Grasp of Malok with tons of stability and 3rd Eye. It was a roll meant for me. No matter what the meta shifted to, that gun felt great. Now days "MY GUN" is the Better Devils. The problem with this, is that it feels like a virtual product and not a special weapon. No amount of mods or shaders can make my better devils, into "MY GUN" Now will returning to random rolls unbalance the game... yes. However it is that carrot on the string that drives me to find "MY GUN". Because of how rigid the rolls are for each sub class of weapon, learning the firing pattern for something like Dire Promise and Old Fashioned feel the same. I want to build that relationship with my arsenal again. Please Bungie really consider the randoms for weapon perks again To the community what was "YOUR GUN" in Destiny 1 and why?

  • You probably should have worded it so it's"Bring back random rolls" or something because saying "unbalance the game" probably isn't the greatest idea. Otherwise i'm completely for random rolls and I don't think it would imbalance the game.

  • To most serious Destiny players, especially PVPers, this is 100% true. We would grind for days just to get guns like Matador64, PartyCrasher, LDR that could shoot through walls. But as you say on top of that they could be drastically different from each other. I used to have a BLue sniper that picked up ammo boxes by shooting it, a shotgun with Hammerforged and other range weapons and one with a sure 1 shot kill with my final round where I basically had a single barrel shotgun all match. D2 ha just watered down everything about D1 and acted like it was progress. But we didnt want simpler, we in fact wanted more diverse. They dumbed down characters to where we are all the same. There really isnt many true "Builds". They made all our weapons like Exotics were as yo usaid, identical. They also made armor tremendously stale with no more 3 perk armor sets. Armor was truly unique and now its gone. Anyways, I totally agree that while we used Exotics, its the other weapons we used that we took hours reforging or grinding for that made our loadouts feel like us. Yo uwould never look at what a guy had as an exotic, you always looked at if he had Fatebringer or Matador64 or Iron Banner weapons etc. And all of them were either super hard to get, or took large amounts of work, with now days game its 100% drop dependant and so these "Special" weapons are perfect out of the box i na newbs hands, where in D1 the kid may get lucky with a Matador shotgun and put full auto on it and waste his perks. Making games uber safe for casuals always makes games very boring for die hard players. Games like Eve and WOT that are extremely deep and take tons of devotion to learn mechanics are always the ones that retain players longterm [Well not wot anymore they went down the dumbing route.] This game could have had the highest rate of die hard fans of all time, no joke. It could have been 10 million hardcore fans who lived, ate and breathed it. Instead Bungie did the same thing they did in D1 and made it a light version of Halo and jedis but lacking the story of either one of those masterpieces. Bungie could only live off of Halo so long, and now just like Bioware, they will be looked at with extreme skepticism.

    • I think that the personal connection to weapons will happen eventually. As the weapon pool expands, there will be more diversity and more opportunities for guns that really speak to you. Examples I've heard are guns like the Time Worn Spire. I loved the Etana as soon as I picked it up. After I found out how good it was, I lost interest. I didn't know it was the best sidearm at first, but I loved the way it handled. Something about a hip-fire close quarters weapon just felt awesome. I've had numerous other experiences with great weapons in Destiny 2. The funny thing is, instead of spending days and finally getting 1 great gun, I spent hours and got them all. It really puts the game into a different perspective and makes you think, are these experiences worth the time it takes to have them? The answer should be no, because having a great gun quickly should be more desirable than wasting tons of time to get the same experience. The difference between grinding and playing is the entertainment value involved. Destiny 2 still has great guns, it just gives them to you at a completely different pace. If you are willing to try them all, there is tons of valuable game play to be had. I can't say the same about Destiny's random rolls, its just not feasible to obtain them in a reasonable manner. It just never felt right that I wasn't allowed to just have what I wanted, or have a clear path to obtaining the item in question. Its one thing to have RNG for engram drops like Raid weapons, its another to have RNG for weapon perks. I think that for players who don't like fixed rolls, the best solution is allowing players to mod their weapons with the perks they want. It allows customization and personalization, without requiring the time investment to circumvent the random rolls.

    • Honestly, thank you. I understand this. I can't remember what "my gun" was in D1, and I don't think I ever had one. I've been a Hakke fan boy ever since the foundries come out as a main feature. Still am. I've always been a scout rifle/Auto Rifle guys so I love the dual primaries set up. And in D1 I would have sold my soul to Satan for Hakke scout rifles. Now that we have them, (and I still have my soul, at least I think I do.) I want there to be so many variants of all these guns. Set perks are fine by me. I'd love a more in depth modding system so we hunt down the mods we want to make the gun we've chosen, "My Gun". If we had thousands of guns available to us in D2 that were viable for end game, we'd be happy campers right? Honestly an in depth modding system, and a vast sea of different unique perk load out guns (visuals are a whole other matter) would really solve this Carrot that we all want to chase. I'll admit, I miss the hunt like a lot of you guys who loved random rolls. I wasn't a fan so much. Mostly cause I like customizing and tinkering until my gun and I are simply extensions of each other. In other games I'm the same way, so it's not just a destiny dream. Let me know what you think about maybe a more in depth modding system and just a larger number of guns even in the set perk method. It's a viable answer and honestly, I just want someone to acknowledge that.
