In theory the mod system is a good addition to Destiny, allowing you to to customize your gear and weapons without grinding and rolling for random stats and perks. My one issues is mostly with the weapon mods and lack of variety. There should be more than just kinetic and energy mods, especially for kinetic weapons. I have been grinding for a kinetic mod for what feels like weeks now. I say bring back the enemy burns! Gimme that sweet sweet Shank Burn! Not only would the enemy specific burns add more kinetic mods to the pool, it would also give more of a use to duplicates, allowing you to customize various versions of the same weapon for each activity. These mods could also be dropped in certain activities for example, if you complete the Leviathan Raid Royal Pools challenge you could get a mod that does bonus damage to the bathers. I also feel like Banshee should sell at least 3 random legendary mods each week. These should be purchasable for for legendary shards because what else are you gonna use them for. I know a lot of people want random rolls back but I kind of like the mod system. Its good in theory but I think it could use a little improvement.
