THIS IS NOT A CASE OF LOW FPS. Monitored framerate is NOT dropping during the stutter. The game mostly runs great during combat between 60-144 fps. Silky smooth. I noticed some real annoying stuttering that gradually gets worse over time (very visible when trying to turn your character quickly), but strangely my FPS was still 60+. It would eventually get bad enough to become more than an annoyance and start to affect gameplay quite a bit. I could even go to orbit and my mouse cursor would skip around while moving it around in the menus with my fps as a solid 144. As soon as I restarted the game - BAM perfectly smooth again.
Changing any graphics settings (vsync, aim smoothing, fullscreen, etc.) does not fix the bug.
Switching drivers (the bug has been around for a year's-worth of driver updates now) - and even completely changing hardware - does not fix the bug.
Most people seem to be getting the stutter the worst/fastest from doing public activities. My current theory is that it still has something to do with clan and/or public player list data piling up in the code and not getting properly cleaned out.
What sets this bug apart from other stutter bugs?:
1) The stutter gets worse over time. Destiny 2 does not have the frame stutter immediately after starting the game. Noticeable difference after ~30-60 minutes of gameplay. Early on, you might not notice it, but your brain does.
2) You can temporarily fix the stutter by restarting the game. Reportedly, some people get it to reset by returning to orbit... but not always.
3) Not a mouse polling issue. Still occurs with mouse disconnected and playing with only a controller.
4) Framerate does not drop precisely during the micro-stutter, nor after the stutter gets worse.
OUTDATED bug reproduction info:
This was initially a reliable way to reproduce the issue, but a lot has changed since then. It is still reproducible via these steps, but the bug is not as suddenly noticeable as it used to be):
I have managed to reproduce this choppiness bug every time.
I'd be interested in seeing if the exact same thing can be done by others with different rig setups:
1. Start up fresh game
2. Go to Artifact's Edge on Nessus and wait for public event - the Cabal Drill event.
3. AS SOON AS PUBLIC EVENT BEGINS (sky darkens, etc.) the choppiness starts.
Only a game restart will fix this. Going back to orbit, or even loading into another area, the strange stuttering persists until game restart.
I have noticed the game doing this "dropped frames" thing elsewhere - maybe just over time it gets worse. But this one public event was like night and day when it started.
Edit Nov. 30 2017: This is still an issue even after the clan roster fix, although the performance degrades at a slower pace than it used to. Continuously doing public events is still the best/fastest way I have found to reproduce this issue.
Edit Sept. 7 2018: Still an issue. Have to restart the game every hour or so to reset the stutter. Many people reporting it being worse since Forsaken (more active clan & player lists aggravating the issue?)
Edit March 7 2019: Hasn't been fixed yet. Some evidence seems to show that the stuttering is in part triggered or made worse by FPS going over 60. So the more powerful your hardware, the worse you will see this bug. Which may explain why it was reported more frequently by people with higher end GPUs (1080s, 2080s, AMD equivalents, etc.). It would also match up with other 'above-60fps' engine bugs Destiny 2 has had in the past: weapon effect animations, jump pads, etc. Perhaps this coupled with something in public areas is causing the stuttering to gradually get worse.

Also experiencing this issue. Game stutters or lags. I thought it was caused by other guardians in the same instance, but I'm experiencing it while running ascendant challenges solo too. Ryzen 5 1600x GA 370 K5 Mobo GTX 1080 SC Win 10 16GB Vengeance 3000 mhz LG 34" UW 144hz I tried downloading CPU Cores and reducing background processes, and I run ClearMem lite periodically to free up memory, but I haven't found a complete fix for the issue. I tried reinstalling GPU drivers, updating mobo bios, resetting CMOS, lowering in-game settings, adjusting Nvidia settings, etc. I monitor all my temps and there are no abnormalities. GPU usage, CPU usage, and mem clocks are all consistently performing too. Prime95 tested and 3DMark tested. I should be able to run this game at 144 fps but the game reports variances from 90-130 in a matter of seconds. The solutions mentioned above provide some relief, but the fixes are inconsistent and temporary. Bungie, please address this issue. It seems to be a recurring problem and a real impediment to the beautiful, immersive experience you've created.

Bearbeitet von Vork: 12/31/2018 5:28:27 AMI did some experimenting tonight with frame times. I have a GTX 1080ti, 8600k OCed to 5.1Ghz, and a 165hz GSYNC monitor. I usually play with a 120 fps cap to keep cpu under 100% and to keep framerate in the GSYNC band (under 165hz), but with any cap set the frame times spread way apart. I found that with GSYNC on, VSYNC on in the NVIDIA control panel, VSYNC off in-game and the frame cap off in-game the frame times are extremely tight with no stutter. I think the bug is in their implementation of the frame limiter. Try uncapping framerate and see if that helps. UPDATE: I downloaded NVIDIA inspector version 1.9.7.8 from guru3d and set a frame cap at the driver level in the profile inspector. I set it to 160 fps (Frame Rate Limiter v2) and its smooth as butter now. So yeah, the in-game frame limiter is bugged out.

Having the micro stutter issue, a quick google search produced this link from reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTechSupport/comments/78k0wf/microstuttering_fps_on_pc/ I followed OP's example and changed the setting he mentioned and the microstutter effect was reduced but not resolved. Interested to know if this helps anyone else. EDIT: for those not interested in clicking the link. the OP's suggestion was to .. " Go to your game folder Open properties of Destiny.exe Go to compatibility ( right-click Destiny.exe , select 'Properties' , select 'Compatibility' tab ) Check DPI-scaling via application ( for me, this was : 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings' ) " Your Mileage May Vary Cheers!

I might have found one solution for this problem, if you have Wallpaper Engine make sure all the setting are set to pause all. I had awful stuttering and it was unplayable but I set the setting to pause all and it runs perfectly now.

Just bought Forsaken and Annual Pass for PC and game starts fine but after playing a little while, especially in social areas, my game starts to stutter and progressively gets worse. Having this exact issue, no fps drop but this stutter that if you put up with it for long is like having mild motion sickness. It seems to be linked to patch/hotfixes, although not always. I first noticed just after reset on the 5th Dec, was doing some blind well with a friend and it was really bad. I'd been trying a 417 driver and assumed that was it so I rolled back to 416.94 which I had previously used and never noticed this issue. The next day there was no issues so assumed it was the driver. But with the game patch/update this reset it was back, seems to be confined to public areas or in the forge. Haven't noticed it in strikes/missions/gambit. So I was thinking it was maybe a memory leak, but after keeping an eye on my ram usage in task manager that doesn't seem to be the case, I've seen the game run flawlessly and climb over 3.2gb and seen it run super choppy and be around 2.4gb. I'm still using the same 416.94 driver, I haven't changed any settings in Nvidia CP or in game, I don't have anything running in the background like HWM or Afterburner. i7-8700 Asus ROG Strix 2080 16GB DDR4-3000 Ram Win 10 Home 64-bit GSync Enabled running @1440p

Exact same issue here, fingers crossed the January work they are doing addresses these issues. I really hope they care enough about the PC player base to fix this cause its obviously a huge problem for many people. I enjoy this game a lot when its running well, and becomes really frustrating when performance is an issues. —Here is the weird thing—if I cap my frames at 144 the game drops to low 100s , if I cap my frames at 100 the game drops into the 80s, if I cap my frames at 72, the game drops into the 60s, if I cap my frames at 60, the game drops into the 50s. WTF DO I DO WITH THAT SHIT?? It’s like a bad joke or something..
-
I'm seeing the exact same thing here!! Started when Black Armory came out for me. Previously I wasn't having an issue even with Forsaken. I've had it locked to 120fps with a fps cap enabled and it's was butter smooth actually stuck to 120fps with no dips at all!! Now i only get a smooth 120fps for maybe 15-20 minutes then the fps starts to dip and stutter. After an hour it gets to the point were it starts to give me a headache and starts to become unplayable. The fps always no longer can hold 120fps and usually fluctuates between 90 to 110fps. Sadly as this game can't hook into FPS monitoring tools like MSI Afterburner I can't do frametime polling to see if I'm getting massive frametime spikes! 1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Valhalla: 12/19/2018 3:58:04 AMYup, gonna add myself to this post now. Just got back into the game myself, now that Black Armory is out. It never drops below 140FPS, except for the very infrequent micro stutter of 90FPS. Essentially, the game never ever drops below 60FPS at all, yet the game never seems to run smoothly after about 10 minutes of gameplay. Always feels stuttery and choppy, even though the frames are generally over 140FPS at about 95% of the time. Feels like I am running at like 30-60FPS with stuttering. Never had this problem up until I started playing again today. Thought maybe it was just me, but apparently not. Very irritating, as this was never an issue for me until now. I7 5820k EVGA 2080TI FTW3 16GB 3600hz RAM Win10 64bit UPDATE After fiddling with some visual settings, I noticed that for some reason, whenever I would adjust from Fullscreen to Windowed or Borderless Windowed or back to Fullscreen, or whatever, the game kept trying to force me into 4k resolution(I had previously been playing on a 4k monitor), even though I was playing on a 1440p monitor. It was as if for some reason, in the coding, the game still thought I was playing on a 4k monitor and wanted to automatically adjust it back up to 4k resolution. I also noticed that adjusting my resolutions weren't really doing anything, like the game wasn't actually changing my resolution or saving my adjustments. So I would set my visuals to 1440p on Fullscreen, then switch to Windowed, and it would try to force my screen into Windowed, but at 4k resolution. So basically I couldn't see anything. So I would tell it to revert, and it would go back to 1440p in Fullscreen. But anytime I made any adjustment, it tried to force 4k. After fiddling with this for a while, I eventually just tried to force it into 1680x1050 and other resolutions, while also forcing it into Windowed and Borderless Windowed, until it finally registered both at the same time and saved both settings. I then restart the game while in 1680x1050 in Borderless to make sure it saved that way, then set it back into 1440p in Fullscreen, restarted again. At this point I was finally able to adjust my screen settings without it forcing me into 4k anymore, and since then I have yet to have any odd stuttering issues. *crossing my fingers*. This could be COMPLETELY random, but it seems like my stuttering issues were because the game couldn't seem to figure out what monitor I was on, or what resolution was native to the monitor(and possibly was refresh rate was native to the monitor) and it was having problems. You guys may want to test this as well and see if it is also doing this to you.

Bearbeitet von LazyNick: 12/18/2018 1:31:37 PMi have the same problem, i can play the solo missions perfectly fine without a single frame dropping, high settings full heavy combat effects everywhere 60 fps with vsync rock solid.as soon as i finish the solo mission and the game drops me in the public map then the "fun" begins. stuttering like crazy, even if i sit in a corner and look at the wall the fps goes up and down like crazy from 50 to 60 changing constantly hence the stutter as long as another player is on the same map with me this happens.the only way to play the game without a headache is to limit the fps to 40, do the public stuff, then when i do a solo mission again disable the limiter back to solid 60 fps.my guess something is wrong with the multiplayer stuff. i5 3570k gtx 970 8gb ddr 3 1600 mhz Windows 10 Pro Build 1809

Bearbeitet von Reevsie147: 12/4/2018 6:12:04 PMCan confirm that I'm experiencing the same (or similar) issue. FR sticks around 120 (where I've limited it) 90% of the time with occasional dips to circa 90 FPS, however whilst roaming open world and public events, things start to stutter horribly even though my FR remains high. Problem doesn't seem to manifest itself in Strikes or Gambit at all. I don't remember noticing the issue at all until Forsaken public areas (in fact, I was really impressed with how smooth everything was!) so can only assume it's related to new content or just coincides with when I started Forsaken campaign (around a week ago) GPU - Asus Strix 980Ti CPU - i7-4790K RAM - 16GB SSD - Samsung 850 Pro Monitor - Asus VG248QE - 144Hz GSync OS - Windows 10 Pro Build 1809 EDIT: Added RAM and OS Info

Bearbeitet von JellinWellen: 12/2/2018 6:10:30 AMSame here. 6700k with a 2080, the on screen frame counter reads 130+ frames, yet after roaming around a patrol area for a bit it just becomes a stutter-fest despite the frame rates staying the same. Restarting the game helps, Crucible, Raids etc seem to be okay. Has Bungie addressed this? It's quite annoying
-
I'm having this issue now too, I have a brand new build all parts fresh out the box. CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (Non x) GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 1070 Ti FTW2 PSU: EVGA Supernova 850w MOBO: B450 Aorus M RAM: 8GB @ 3000Mhz XPG ADATA SSD: Inland professional 240GB HDD: Its a 500GB hard drive WD (Western digital) Crucible is perfect I get anywhere from 130-156 FPS with no stutters. Free roam on the other hand is horrible and makes PvE a bit harder to enjoy as I focus more and more on the stuttering rather than playing the game because its so noticeable. I can start any planet and be fine but the second I do a public event or even gradually after time it starts to stutter. Raiding is perfect no stutters no matter what raid I do. Tower is ok I guess I never really notice it. Only a few times have I caught it in the tower. Orbit most of the time I am fine but I do have moments where my mouse stutters on character screen or just in general sitting in orbit. And when I am choosing my loadout/gear sometimes it starts to stutter. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS IS WITH MY FPS ALMOST NEVER GOING BELOW 100FPS
-
Thought this was an issue with nvidia 10 series GPU's but I just put together an AMD build and the stuttering persists despite my framerate being pegged at 72 (75hz monitor.) C'mon Bungie.
-
Aaaaaaaand still no word from Bungie. Really makes me regret spending $75, when after 20 minutes at a location I start to get stuttering that makes it impossible to look around.
-
Bearbeitet von Nisrock: 11/28/2018 1:25:53 PMWithin a few minutes of landing on a planet to do public events, the stuttering frame rate starts for me. Frame rate reported by the game stays consistently high, but it feels like it skips frames. Doesn't matter what settings I use in or out of game. It doesn't make the game unplayable, especially since public events aren't really a huge part of the game, but it's extremely annoying. Someone asked if AMD GPU users have the same issue. I do. I ran an R9 390 prior to picking up a Vega 64 about two months ago, and I've had the same stuttering frame rate issue on both cards. This holds true with and without FreeSync turned on. Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.8GHz Asus Strix B350-f Gaming G.skill FlareX 16GB 3200 (running at 3000, IMC doesn't like 3200) PowerColor Red Devil Vega 64 8GB, stock Samsung Evo 860 500GB SSD, both OS and D2 on SSD It's maddening to me that this issue persists, although I'm sure it's a matter of company resources. If the majority of players aren't up in arms about it, there's no reason for them to task people to fix it. Still, frustrating. I have been keeping an eye on my GPU usage and clock speeds in WattMan (not the overlay, just alt tabbing) and I've noticed that GPU usage seems to dip when this starts to happen, and GPU clock speed with it. It's not tied to temperature, however, or memory usage. My card has 8GB of VRAM, and the issue starts before the game's even using up 3GB of VRAM. EDIT: I've found that running maxed settings masks the problem somewhat. I suspect that motion blur minimizes the impact of the stutter by blurring out some of it. I ordinarily disable it. The stutter is still there, and still annoying, but it's not quite as obvious.
-
same issue since launch :( i love how bungie is ignoring this ...

Yeah I also have this issue, the game starts stuttering after playing for a while and it’s very annoying. Really heartbreaking to see this go ignored for so long and become a stain in such an otherwise incredible PC port.

Having the exact same issue, started playing a few days ago as i got it for free in the giveaway promotion. Sucks to hear this has been a problem for over a year now. I can play perfectly for about an hour before the game starts to stutter and freeze up, its really irritating and the only fix ive found is resetting the client. tried lowering settings and changing up my resolution but nothing seems to be sorting it out. Eagerly awaiting a fix as im enjoying playing.
