So 220,000 pre-orders TOTAL for both PS4 & XBox1 consoles translates into success? Please enlighten me as I'm obviously missing something given the information presented in your link.
-
Not saying you're wrong here are you getting this number from because I can't find it in the link ryebar provided lol
-
They have 220,000 preorders 3 months before release. I don't know how to make that any simpler than it already is.
-
And yet D1 was sitting at about 1.2 million pre-orders at the same time in 2014. That means the sequel has about 15% of what D1 had. That's not good news no matter how you try to spin it.
-
The only person trying to spin it is you lol
-
No, what I did is called "providing context". You just threw out a number that doesn't mean a whole lot on its own.
-
Citing D1's numbers isn't providing context for anything. That's like saying Drake is a failure because Lil Wayne went platinum in a week twice but Drake never has.
-
Dude, you're missing the entire point. D1's sales are absolutely imperative to how D2 will be measured as a success. You're also forgetting that 1. It's an Activision product, and that publisher has a reputation of being greedy and 2. D2 has THREE development houses behind it. There's more context for ya. D2 tracking behind D1 by that much should be a cause for concern.
-
Let me ask you something: is Destiny 2 currently at the top of the charts for preorders?
-
That's not the metrics to judge how successful a sequel is. It has to outdo the predecessor, in sales AND reception. Its current positioning in sales is a moot point.
-
Lmao I guess Bad was a flop because it didn't sell as well as Thriller. I can always count on this forum for an easy laugh.
-
Bearbeitet von DaMidniteHour: 6/30/2017 9:57:00 PMBad wasn't financed by Activision, nor did it consume a lot of resources for it to be made. You sure love whataboutisms and ignoring context. Wait...are you comparing a AAA videogame to an album released THIRTY years ago?
-
Bad wasn't financed by Activision, nor did it consume a lot of resources for it to be made.
Lmao another easy laugh.
You sure love whataboutisms and ignoring context.
Give me some context then. How much did it cost to make Destiny 2?
-
You do know D2 has been in development since 2014. Also, Bungie has more or less 1000 people working on the game, and that's not counting Vicarious Visions and High Moon also working on the game. And then there will be the trademark Activision marketing. Do the math.
-
Lol look at who's avoiding context now.
-
That's how I know you have nothing left. Good day, sir.

I don't know shit about rappers so I have no clue whether that analogy makes sense nor not. But I don't see how you can claim that comparing D1 to D2 in terms of pre-order numbers isn't contextual. D2 is the sequel to D1, in case you weren't aware. The fact that the pre-order numbers are sitting at 15% of the original means a whole shit-ton of people who bought D1 so far haven't committed to coming back yet. That's absolutely relevant.
-
I never said they were rappers, so I'm sure you know who Drake & Lil Wayne are, cool guy. My point is being at the top of the charts for preorders is a good indicator of being successful. You coming along saying "yeah but D1 was doing better at this time" doesn't change that fact.
-
I live in Canada. Its hard not to know who Drake is up here. But I honestly wouldn't recognize one of his songs if you played it for me. My music collection falls into the broad realm of heavy metal/hard rock. But this gets back to my point about why comparing D1 and D2's pre-order numbers makes sense. They aren't just two random video games. They are two games in the same franchise, one being the direct sequel to the other. Not quite the same thing as comparing two music artists in the same broad genre. Throwing out a number like 220K without providing context means nothing. Saying that D2 is currently tracking at 15% of its predecessor suddenly puts that number in context. And if you think there aren't any people in Activision's sales department who are concerned about that number, you are kidding yourself.
-
I didn't throw out a number without context. I linked a website that tracks how EVERY GAME with available preorders is doing, & Destiny 2 is at the top of the list.
-
Comparing D2 to its direct predecessor is more relevant than comparing it to a bunch of random other games. Finishing first in a tortoise race doesn't mean you are fast.

Yeah. 220,000 is nothing. You thinking that's something show's that you don't have a clue.
