Well, I'd have to say that's due to particles being thrown off of it. Though I think the earth is flat, I do think there is a significant difference between the sun and a comet.

It's just that the sun is so bright and hot it either eats the particles or we just don't see them without proper equipment.

The gravity is much stronger than a comet. A comet and a star are also 2 different things.
