Thanks for trying to make up something to tie it all together.......but us old guys know the real story.
Destiny was supposed to have a real story that made sense with lots of cut scenes and other stuff. At the end you would confront the speaker and he would remove his white mask - only to reveal your guardian's face.
Activision thought the story was too corny and spilled too much of the Destiny content too soon.
Instead they had Bungie ditch the story, break up the content so they could sell it in chunks, and make up some disjointed crap that never really made any sense. The Darkness, The Stranger, The Traveler - other than vague references in year 1 they have all been ignored. The head writer quit (fired?) and Bungie hired some hacks to come in and create all the Grimoire cards.
We do battle with the Fallen, the Hive, the Cabal, the Vex, and The Taken - all of whom all fight against each other (except Hive and Taken). There is no cohesive "Darkness" axis of evil or "Darkness being". Traveler/Darkness is just a metaphor for yin/yang, good/evil, etc, etc, etc.
In the end it's a PvE game with a crap story mode and decent PvP which needs no story.
Here's hoping we get something better in D2.

Pretty much nailed it bro. Exept the PVP was good, was. Now its a giant lagfest with paid carries .

I'm very well aware of what the old story was. It was 100% better than what we got. But one fresh start and that should give everything a good kick into motion. Here's hopes that D2 delivers. Though I don't entirely agree that the darkness isn't its own entity. But only time will tell.
