I thought I recognized the gamer tag..... The issue is that you are a double-outlier. You are playing a game in Australia whose fanbase is largely centered in the US and Europe...and you are a top <1% player. Currently ranked about 5500th the world, according to Destinytracker. Whereas your other Aussie friends are more average players, so I'm not surprised that the game has an easier time finding them people to play...and with better connections. While I appreciate your frustration, Bungie really doesn't have ANY good options when it comes to dealing with someone like yourself. If they go completely skill-based, the game struggles to find you someone to play with. The odds of finding someone at your skill level who has a decent connection to you is slim-to-none. If they go completely connection-based....you basically ruin the play experience of others. Being an average player thrown into a game with you is about as "fun" or "relax" as being a Christian thrown to the Lions in the Roman Coliseum. And about as competitive. If they go some mixture of the two....you get what you're getting now. Shorter wait times than you'd be facing in a purely SBMM situation....but still with opponents that are going to be other parts of the world. As the game tries to keep you from stomping the crap out of average players. So the options that Bungie has here basically boil down to two really shitty options. Tolerate conditions that please larger numbers of lower skilled players....but risk driving you out of the game..... ....or tolerating conditions that please you....but risk driving large numbers of lower-skilled players out of the game.

Well said Although I think returning the matchmaking back to pure connection base might not be as bad as most people seem to think. As you're forgetting top tier players can be on your team also and if there's only a small amount of us the remaining majority won't even run into them.
being a Christian thrown to the Lions in the Roman Coliseum
lmao

  • The problem with CBMM isn't the elite player, for the reasons you mention. The problem is what happens when you throw the new player and the low-skill/casual player up against the "average" player. The experience for them is going to be like an average player going up against you. But while players like yourself are few in number, the average player is the majority. So you set up a situation where the game starts to eat its own young. So it stagnates because there is massive wall of humiliation and frustration that has to be overcome to add new players to the game, to replace the old ones who leave.
