Update: I have previously commented (3x) on this issue. Essentially the same experience as most of the posters in the thread. Followed all the Bungie recommendations to the letter. Also tried two different high-performance wired routers (Ubiquiti ERL (with miniupnpd2 UPNP, the best open-source UPNP implementation) and a Netgear Nighthawk X4S). My ISP is Comcast (Blast). All three XBox Ones consistently report Open NAT, and we have never had any problem with local fireteams on any game other than Destiny. We could all also play Destiny at the same time, no problems, just not with each other. Our Destiny local fireteam problems started back in July, just like most of the posters. I had been broken since. Always the immediate "Unable to join target..." error. But a couple of weeks ago, it started working, and has been bulletproof since. There was nothing that I did on my end. We tried it a few days after RoI came out, just in case it worked, and it did and still does without a hiccup. So, to speculate... it seems pretty apparent that the root of this problem is in the Destiny server implementation, in the way that it allocates/load-balances player traffic. Sometimes you get lucky and your local fireteam players land on the same (or otherwise co-hosted or compatible) servers, and it works... and sometimes (most of the time) not. Which is why all the crazy spam-the-join-button, quit-and-relauch, simultaneous-join, etc. work-around stories appear, but none are reliable/repeatable. I also suspect that there may be some elves working in the background at Bungie Ops that are able to manually provision load/server-allocation based on the Gamertags we report. This may be dependent on geography, network provider and datacenter allocations, and many other factors. Which may explain why they can fix some of us, but maybe not all of us. And, also why there is no console patch that can fix it and it doesn't show up in the release notes. I am reporting this because I expect that a lot of people that have experienced the local fireteam problem and reported it here, may have had their problem resolved. Most happily go on with their lives, and don't report the resolution here. I am a networking engineer, and have had to deal with problems like this from the other side. It's hard, and I feel for the Bungie Ops team. But, the lack of communication and transparency on this is really problematic. And there is no excuse for it. Those of us that have bought multiple consoles, multiple copies, DLCs, etc. are probably among Bungie's best net-promoters and they are doing irreparable damage to their reputation with their silence and perceived indifference.   • Mines and the wife's is the same puts me right off Destiny especially after 2 Destiny games the small add ons then the 40 pound one and the 35 pound one comes to over 250 pounds it socks man

  • Nah this problem is so random on their end that depending on their network load depends on if you can create a local fireteam first time or if it takes several tries using a number of solutions. I have reported this issue on here and left my psn tags and since I reported it I still have to jump through hoops just to play destiny with my wife. The easiest solution I have found is starting the game at the sametime and connecting as soon as you get to orbit. This tricks their network into realising there's 2 different ip's since the nat-t protocol on bungie's end is currently bugged. Anyway bungie aren't loading certain gamertags/psn id's onto their network otherwise this problem would of been fixed for all on this thread not a select few.

  • seems like iv had the exact opposite problem, game worked fine till ROI launched and since then getting on the same fireteam with my BF has been a nightmare. The other evening he had to drop out of a raid i'd planned because it literally wouldnt let us both on the team.. without disconnecting or rebooting, if he left the team, I was immediately able to join it (and no it wasnt full - and because of this we were left scrambling for a 6th team member!) Its total crap and they need to sort it out.

  • TRIED ALL WEEKEND and couldn't get it working. So, nope. Overwatch parties up without a hitch. In Destiny, out of A,B, & C we could pair AB or BC or AC, but never all three xbox's at once. Cheers. Please still fix this Bungie. I'll come here and report it when it works, believe me.

  • Very interesting. I'm glad that the game is working for you. If only we could say the same. :/ Every "fix" has been unreliable/unrepeatable, as you mentioned. Since July, Bungie! JULY!!!!

  • Thanks for the reply! The Destiny community has been AWESOME in trying to help players while Bungie has remained [i]mostly[/i] silent. Unfortunately, the method you mentioned was working for us until the "possible fix" that was implemented awhile back. After that "fix" it hasn't worked. We can still use this method if we're only connecting 2 consoles. However, we have 3 consoles and we can't seem to connect the 3rd this way. We've had the most success connecting all 3 consoles when we start Destiny at exactly the same time and continue the process of sending and accepting invites as fast as humanly possible! This doesn't always work the first, second, or even third attempt, but it has worked with more regularity then anything else.

  • We use this method for two consoles, it works pretty much all the time. We have a third console which is connected to a Mac, we share the Internet though the Mac and it always connects to the fireteam straight away. Although this works for us, it is really tiresome to go through this process every time, just to join a fireteam. I remember supplying our details to Bungie late July, thinking, "This will be fixed soon".. oh, how wrong we were! Now I'm not sure it'll ever be fixed, I don't think Bungie really care about this issue, or it would be fixed by now.
