The fact that weapons are hitscan........ doesn't make a difference . The whole point of lag is that what you see on your screen is not what they see on their screen . So you might see a guy in an objective zone, but really he is somewhere else . Shooting what you see against a lagging player doesn't matter .
The point of da!age referee , as I understand it , is to make it so that whatever the player won't the better connection sees is what is decided as "real " . So if a with a good connections sees the guy won't the bad connection in the zone and and shoots him , he will take damage whether or not he is actually there .
Its called damage referee because is a an adjudicator that decides which person is correct on what they see

Such a hitscan will check if you hit something that was on your screen at a given moment. So even if the player lags hard, it won't matter because you hit him on your screen, and thus the damage will be applied. If it's used as a host hitscan, lag will be a bigger issue because only the host instance will be allowed to decide what actually happened. Damage referee is useless in the first scenario and I also haven't encountered another FPS that needed to introduce a damage referee 1.5 years after release, because the lag is destroying a huge number of encounters. I just want a technical explanation why the damage referee is needed when hitscan weapons are used.

I shall echo what I have said on numerous occasions. Others may lag. But you may be the source of your own frustration. Always use a wired connection, and always,always turn your tv to game mode. Lag is possible from your machine to your screen.

Absolutely. It's probably not that important in Destiny because it runs at 30 FPS instead of 60, but input lag is real and happens. However I am only wondering why damage referee would be needed, when hitscan is used, not if 90 ms of input lag are a lot (you'd probably want around 20-30 when buying a new TV though).
