Destiny 2 is causing my entire pc to crash and restart

I have been playing Destiny 2 on PC since launch day with no problems what so ever. The game has been running great and it has been amazing. But starting since last night, as soon as I log on and get into orbit, my computer monitor turns off, my computer stays on for 10 more seconds then turns off, and then 15 seconds later my computer restarts. I only have this problem with D2 and I tested it out with other games and it doesn't happen. I have been troubleshooting for 2 hours now and nothing has worked. If someone from bungie can help me or someone who has had this and knows how to fix it, that would be great. My Specs are i7 7700k GTX 1080ti 16gb RAM 800 Watt power supply 2TB HDD 500gb SSD BattleTag: ABitToxic#1298

  • I'm also having this problem. I've tried everything I've found like turning off shaders and vsync, setting it higher in the task manager order, etc. Does anyone have any other ideas?

  • Just found another solution that seems to work for me. If your laptop/desktop graphics card has G-Sync capability and is enabled, then DISABLE THE V-SYNC OF DESTINY 2 in the in-game graphics options. G-Sync is better, and I think V-sync gets in its way. Hope it works for you as well :-)

    • Had similar crashing issues. My fix turned out to be my RAM speed. Memory is certified for 3200MHz with my motherboard, but crashing is nonexistent when clocked at 3066MHz. All other factors/testing had negligible impacts.

    • I've found a solution to these crashes on my system. A quick explanation is that Direct X was having some errors initializing a device for Direct Input that isn't actually an input device at all. You can check for similar errors on your system by running a Direct X diagnostic on your system and checking the reported errors in the text file it generates. You can find some more details on my post about this as I don't want to type it all out again here. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240191520

Hello there! So I think i solved the problem for good this time, cause it happend to me all the time after playing like 10 minutes!Try to reduce the performance,on Graphics Quality to "Default" and put the screen to "Windowed FullScreen"!The problem didn't appear yet,so when it happens again i will try something else to solve it! :D Have fun

    • Same issue here. Something that temporarily solved the problem for me was accessing the blizzard and destiny 2 launcher properties and checking the "run as administrator" box for both. Where it was crashing every hour or so, this solved the problem for about a week with not a single crash. This fix was short-lived, however, as the game has just recently continued to crash with the same, hourly shut-down/restarts. A more permanent solution would be ideal, so if anyone has found a fix, let us hear it. Not a temperature issue and am skeptical of it being a power supply issue. Considering the number of people this is afflicting (other than myself) it is increasingly apparent this is a problem with the game and/or blizzard client.

      • My game would freeze / crash when I would ALT + TAB or Choose a destination and also during cut-scenes. After much research, I remembered when I had another game that would do this so I gave this a try.. Installed EVERY .NET framework that windows 10 would let me install... https://www.microsoft.com/net/download/framework If not using windows 10 then install the Direct X https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 ALL the visual C++ packages that your OS will let you install https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads And for a FINAL NOTE... Make sure you go into your bios settings on your motherboard and DISABLE your on-board video card if you have one... I was freezing and crashing quite frequently and after I did all this, I can now ALT+TAB with no problems so far and have not froze or crashed during cut-scenes or DESTINATION traveling. hope this helps others......

Experiencing the same problem. When trying to complete Oh Captain! in Nessus while following the Harpy, my PC completely black screens and shuts down. I have to power cycle the PSU in order for it to turn back on. This is a fairly new rig, however I dumped over 40 hours into Shadow of War and god knows how many hours into Destiny before this occurred. There is no way this was my computer overheating. Nothing is over clocked and it has never shut down like this. I attempted to redo the quest 2 more times and it power cycled my PC both times at the exact same spot. So I decided to try another quest and had no problem. I get no error message. Just a critical 41 of unexpected shut down so there's no way to diagnose this issue. Current set up is: - AMD RYZEN 5 1600X 6-Core 3.6 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) Desktop Processor -GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 DirectX 12 GV-N1080WF3OC-8GD 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5X PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card - MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON AM4 AMD X370 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 - 750w PSU - 150gb SSD - 2TB HDD - Windows 10 Edit: I would also like to note that after the first crash I did a GFX update to ensure nothing was out of date. Hoped it would solve it since I knew I had an update that I had procrastinated. Still crashed after the update.

          • Just adding another voice to this issue. Same thing happens to me a dozen plus times a day. I have run heavy benchmarks right after a crash to eliminate the variable of it being my hardware. After my most recent crash I ran Furmark for 2 hours, which drove both the GPU and CPU about 20 C degrees higher under load and saw no crashes. The machine is stable, but something about Destiny is causing a hard crash of the entire system. I am happy to help troubleshoot for ideas if you need experienced QA to help out Bungie.

Having the exact same issue. I tried every troubleshooting step that I found suggested on the forums to no avail. I thought it had worked because I was able to play through to where you go to the farm for the first time, but now it crashes within 30 seconds of logging in or landing every time. Monitor goes black, audio stutters, then my pc crashes. It is absolutely not a temperature issue, nor a power supply issue. I use this PC almost nonstop and play dozens of other games and have never had this problem before

The kernel power (event ID 41) error occurs when the computer is shut down or restarts unexpectedly. An under-powered or failing power supply may cause this. There are other potential causes as well. The following link describes some common causes of the kernal power 41 crash and how to resolve them: http://windowsreport.com/kernel-power-41-error-windows-10/

                • In my case it had to do with my PSU. I run an 1080ti and 8700k. While my PSU had enough overall watt, the 12v lines were separate. My GPU caused the PSU to crash. Test this: put GPU power on 150% and run Furmark. This caused my PC to instantly crash.
