*Update* Alright, so it has been officially confirmed that no major changes will be made to Destiny. So proximity chat, text chat and general chat, being major changes, are almost certainly out of the question. This leaves the question of how to communicate with strangers. I think these three commands are the solution that we need. I'm ready: up, left (wave, point) Wait a minute: up, down (wave, sit) Play with me: up, right (wave, dance) Realistically, these are the three major messages you are going to need to play Destiny with strangers. While it may seem true that you could just add someone directly to your fireteam, it is also true that you may want to play with them first to see if they have what it takes. Or you may prefer to not add them to your fireteam at all. Maybe you want to play a strike with a stranger and you don't plan on seeing them again. You will still need to be able to communicate to them when to wait or when you are ready. Otherwise, they may run ahead and get killed or do something fun while you are using the bathroom. Or worse, you might wind up waiting for someone who walked away from their console. Neither is ideal. Communication is vital, even amongst strangers.

  • Might I suggest one more. If for any reason you are delayed for any extended reason ( call of nature etc ) that you could sit facing a wall. This way there could not be any mistake that you were not available, rather than just sitting or standing idly. Just an after thought.

  • Well I already made the gesture 'up, down'/'wave, sit' which is for that so what you are suggesting seems redundant.

This could be generally accepted. Maybe bungie could send everyone a letter via the post office robot lady , and tell them what these meant in that. That way they wouldnt have to implement anything more then they did already, just write a letter, that could be automatically sent to everyone

  • That is what I was thinking. I am planning on contacting Bungie when I make the updated version of this thread. I'd just edit this, but a mod did something to it (unsure of what) and so I can't make any edits whatsoever. If they think it is a good idea, we might see an extra email from the post office robot :D

  • they said no MAJOR changes bit that there will be some tweaks. I don't see adding some form of voip as a major change (something that impacts core mechanics of the game causing widespread adjustments across the board to be made) I see adding some form of voip to be more of a social change. something easier to implement than a complex lfg or matchmaking system as they already have the tools, they are a part of the console.

  • I think changing the communication structure in a social game counts as a major change. It's my opinion, but I think that's an obvious sign that there will be no changes to the communication.

  • and I would agree with your whole heartedly. .. is this were PC where built in voip is actually something that needs to be built into the game. but we are talking about a console release here where voip is already provided they just need to utilize it better. just my 2 cents anyway. .... I do see and understand your point. likewise I hope you can see and understand mine. honestly the whole thing is kind of a moot point anymore. neither of us work for the developer. and launch is a mere month away. if you're on xbox throw me a friend request. other than that. good luck out there guardian.

  • I understand your point. The purpose of this thread is to improve on the limitations of a great game. I'm trying to make practical adaptations of the system Bungie designed for us, so that the game is more fluid and immersive. I agree that the communication system could use improvement but since it seems apparent that Bungie will not provide that change, I should do my best to fill the gap. I may try to contact Bungie to see if they want to promote my idea. I'm going to be playing on the PS4, sorry. Thank you for your contribution.
