Question, how come Black Team's MK VI's looked like the old school Halo 3/2 MK VI when 343i changed the design of it? Aka Master Chief's MK VI.

  • They wear a prototype MJOLNIR armor that Mk. VI would be based on. Traditional Bungie style Mk. VI is still canon.

  • So, wait, if the Bungie MK VI still is canon, how did they explain Chief's MK VI? Why is it different?

Artistic retcon. Basically, according to 343i, that's what his armor always looked like. Now if that sounds silly to you, that's because it is. Fact is, there is no actual, canon explanation for the difference. It's just a retcon.

Now it works! Them nanomachines. But the nanobot theory never worked right? It is the MK VII that have nanobots in the armour for repairs and such, not the MK VI? The one Naomi-010 wears?

  • And this is where the explanation becomes absolutely bogus. Mk. VI is not outfitted with nanomachines. It's possible that the Dawn was, however, nothing in the canon has alluded to that. The reason why the fans know it was nanomachines is because Frankie heavily hinted it to be why is armor's different. But then it begs the question of why the orbital scar wasn't repaired. And then it comes to be be an artistic explanation. But since the old Mk. VI is still canon, it doesn't make sense. Bleh. I love the armor, but 343i really dropped the ball there.

Yeah, I like the armour too but it sure doesn't make sense. It is kind of a good thing they did change it though, since it makes Chief stand out more. If he still had his old MK VI he would just be one MK VI in the crowd. What I thought 343i should have done if they wanted to change his armour, they could have kept the old one until he got to Infinity and there they could have given him an upgraded one. Maybe a MK VII or a spare Spartan 4 armour in his size!
