This may not be the right thread for it, but whatever. I'm expecting someone to bitch at me for saying this. But, why do people think that prevention = victim blaming? That by saying that if women did X to decrease the chances of her getting rayped, that I'm blaming the women, saying it's her fault and that the man is ok because it's her fault. NO, you -blam!-ing dipshit. You're right, people shouldn't raype. People shouldn't bomb airports and/or planes. People shouldn't shoot up schools. But this is a -blam!-ed up world, where people do these things. So we take precaution, take steps to make sure these things don't happen, because it's protecting the innocent from the bad people who DO exist, and we need to realise that. But you can't rely on the law and authority figures for everything, and some level of personal responsibility to protect yourself. I mean, you wouldn't walk around detroit at 1 am, alone, showing off that you have alot of money on you would you? And no, I never think raype is ok. Ever.

 • I think it's really frustrating that to make this statement, you have to clarify numerous times that you don't think rape is okay. Obviously it's not okay, and nobody thinks it is. I agree that it's pertinent and smart to be proactive in your own safety. I think a woman doing so is more powerful and in-control than a feminazi who would say she should be able to behave or dress however and wherever she wants. It sucks that cars have to have locks on them, or that my debit card needs a PIN, or literally any other method of protection, but it doesn't mean you're to blame.

 • I think it's worse because if someone says "Don't do X at Y time in Z area" in any other situation, the general consensus is "yeah sure" But when it comes to raype, saying the same thing gives you alot of negative backlash.

 • I just wish I knew how to discuss this. I've got a lot of women friends, and since we're college-age they're all expressive hipster-types. This thread was inspired by the video above, which basically throws out Rodgers' confirmed social disorders and says we live in a misogynistic culture that taught him to hate women that didn't put out. This devolved into a discussion about how I don't appreciate women's struggles and how every day they have to face the threat of being raped or harassed in some way. What do you even say to that? I just feel like this whole discussion is creating a bigger void between men and women.

 •
What do you even say to that?
That threat of violence is among all of us, men and women of all races, and pinning the blame of an entire gender, or blaming society at large, is causing more issues than solving them. Each killer, each generally misogynistic person, has their own personal problems which they have to deal with. Be it a mental disorder, a bunch of negative experiences has built up, or whatever. Pinning the blame is only pouring petrol into the fire, and not actually dealing with the issues these people are dealing with what causes them to become a killer. Unfortunately, you've got people who think yelling -blam!- culture is infact solving anything.
