Holy shit.
I swear Lord Hood was going to die.
Then we got some hints about Midnight Station.
And then the Flood has infested the Spirit of Fire...

I want to know what Midnight is..
-
Sounds like the Ministry of Love.
-
Why did you have to fricken tell me this Admirals!!? I know I haven't read the comics, but good grief why is 343i killing off all of the characters we know and love? T-T
-
Huh? Hood's still alive. He's just in a wheelchair right now.
-
Edited by Dragonfire: 5/28/2014 12:40:23 PMlet me rephrase that: Why is 343i wanting to kill off and/ or seriously injure all of the characters we know and love? T-T Is it to set the mood for chief's "dark, gritty" campaign?
-
No, it's for the sake of good on the edge of your seat storytelling. And to show how much is at stake during these conflicts.
Holy shit. I swear Lord Hood was going to die. Then we got some hints about Midnight Station. And then the Flood has infested the Spirit of Fire...
so flood confirmed to next game? Hopefully :3
-
Not a confirmation, no. They're stuck on a ship with no FTL capabilities.
-
What if they jump on new approching ships like one spore and they are screwed.
-
No doubt. Although, this is extremely concerning since the crew took the precaution of not bringing the Flood onto the ship. The Flood truly is life's anti-thesis.
-
The Flood truly is life's anti-thesis.
Always sent shivers down my spine when the Didact said that in IRIS... "KNOW THAT ENERGETIC AND TENACIOUS AS LIFE IS, IT HAS AN ANTITHESIS JUST AS POWERFUL, IT IS THAT THING THAT WE MUST OBLITERATE"
-
It's hypocritical too. Is the Flood not life as well? Does that mean life's greatest threat is itself?
-
Adding onto that from Catalog and Ur-Didact's dialogue in Silentium. "Precursor hatred of Forerunners is central to establishing motive. They say Forerunners rose up, unprovoked, and destroyed them. The Precursors did not defend themselves. They marvelled at the power of destruction, of reorganization. Their law includes the necessity of violating the very nature of law... And so they created the Flood to allow themselves the pleasure of watching, at a later date, the progress of their most violent and aggressive creations." ~ Catalog, Silentium p. 209. - "Peace and cooperation, never painful or deadly competition – that’s what they [the Primordials] must have desired. They understood nothing about their creations, really – else why open themselves to that sort of rebellion? Madness! It could only lead to madness." ~ Ur-Didact, Silentium, p. 218.

That's the thing really, the Gravemind in H3's Terminals states that the Flood is the next step of evolution and will provide complete unity to all life. However, it abandons the principle of the Mantle which is to preserve life in all of its diversity (which the Flood assuredly doesn't do).
-
However, it abandons the principle of the Mantle which is to preserve life in all of its diversity (which the Flood assuredly doesn't do).
Unless they pull a Mass Effect 3 and reveal that the Flood are actually just assimilating all life in order to preserve it. Or something like that.

Like, in a way I guess you could make that kind of interpretation, bringing order to chaos and whatnot, but it's in no way as nonsensical as it came across in Hudson Effect 3. There's been a few different reasons for why the Flood does what it does - on one hand it's a test for the Mantle, on the other it's a weapon of punishment for the Forerunners, it's also the next step in galactic evolution that the Gravemind seeks to impose on life, and it's the Precursors' means of bringing "endless greyness" and misery to the galaxy to ensure that no species ever rises up against them again. Unlike Mac Effect 3, the Flood will never be just one thing.
