Hello /k/. I'm from /mlp/, but hear me out.
There's a kind of person. This kind of person is the type who is widely identified as a 'brony celebrity', AND is proud of this kind of title. In other words, this kind of person is cancer.
One of these 'brony celebrities' goes by the alias 'Screwball', and he has a Twitter account. Recently he has been putting together some shitty cosplay for some autistic convention or something, and the character wears a golden medallion on a blue ribbon. For this reason, Screwball enthusiastically suggested [pic related]. Yes. An arguably illegal replica of the -blam!-ing Medal of Honor.
Now, he's Canadian, so it's easy to see where he may not understand the offense that could be caused from doing such a thing. There was a pretty big backlash. Now, as to be expected of a polite Canadian, one would imagine he would apologise for offending people and trivialising such a sacred military valor.
lel, of course not :^)
He tweeted a response to all of the negative feedback, which said:
>People, me and my friend aren't from America, how are we to know what you deem offensive towards your country?! Educate yourselves.
Yeah, you read that right.
>Educate yourselves.
He's basically said to the people who were offended, 'I'm not American, so Stolen Valor doesn't apply to me, and you need to EDUCATE YOURSELVES'.
He then went on to publicly broadcast tweet conversations with his friends regarding the topic, saying things such as;
>they're more concerned about about their country's name/army and what they stand for, I don't know
before turning his attention to those offended and bluntly saying;
>Calm your tits.
Now, I'm not from America, but still I'm angered by someone so casually deciding to include a copy of the damn MoH as part of a -blam!-ing My Little Pony convention costume piece.
Here's his Twitter, if anyone cares: https://twitter.com/Screwball_SBMF
Despite technically not being Stolen Valor, I'll still say this one hurts a little.

2 RepliesCode 8, code 8. We have a defective Canadian. Copy? Understood, mounties inbound on his location.

So ummmm what's the problem?

Edited by Banned Carpet: 5/8/2014 3:25:24 AMMeh, don't really see how this fits into his "cosplay" idea, I get the feeling it's for attention (what other reason than to piss people off?).
Supposedly, "no such thing as negative attention"
-
Edited by Mega Blaziken: 5/8/2014 3:13:23 AMso cosplay of any fantasy military figure that has some medals is illegal now unless you've actually earned that medal? great, next you'll need a -blam!-ing PhD in medical sciences to dress up as a doctor for halloween because muh respuct.

I care.... /s
-
I don't know how I feel about this.

Holy shit this entire thread is nothing but shots fired in all directions. I'm outta here. You all should flee. FLEE!

Id be a hypocrite saying that's disrespectful when I wear an elite issue marines pt shirt that my friend let me have when he got sent home 2 weeks into boot camp. It's just so comfortable.

lolbronies What does him being Canadian have to do with anything....

Edited by Fallen Hero: 5/8/2014 3:40:49 AMSeems like only people getting upset are those who didn't and won't ever earn one.
-
13 RepliesThere needs to be a law that lets people like this get drafted into the military.
-
While he is right that he is in no way obligated to follow American laws, this is still in really bad taste.
-
You'll all live. I don't think this guy has any intentions beyond messing around and having fun with his fandom, and I'm almost certain he's not trying to stir up conflict with patriotic people. He's just some silly guy from Canada.
-
>guy wants to display >nuu u can't display we must ovverreqct! >only shrek can save us now
-
Pardon me while I find some half assed reason to wear around a Victoria Cross... Now, I'm not saying that I'm one of those guys who'd get overly offended by this, but I'd probably throat punch him if I saw that in person.

So much for friendship is magic ROFL Can we just exterminate this cancer? I thought it died.
-
2 RepliesEh. If he's only doing it for cosplay, what's the problem?
-
He's a brony "celebrity". He's already distasteful enough. Though I didn't realize it was illegal to make replicas of medals in the US.
-
Medal of Honour isn't sacred, it's just a honorary medal given to military personnel who do heroic actions. What would be offensive if he was wearing it as a Stolen Valor, i.e. acting or pretending he is a real veteran who earned it to either gain respect or benefits (at places offering military discounts)
-
*drags out sigh for an awkward amount of time*
-
1 ReplyThat's disgusting. I hope he gets seven shades of shite knocked out of him.

What the FUCK is this motherfucking bullshit.
