343 day, haha. Bungie's weekly updates always had this genuine feel to them. They always contained something that was either surprising, interesting, or just funny. Maybe part of the magic was that they were not always about dumb Halo things. 343's 'Bulletins' on the other hand are just straight up shit. They always make me feel like I am reading some cheap Chinese knockoff of Bungie's own efforts. "Look! Here's 343 day! And wait for it ... the Resistor unlock that we promised months ago for our dead game! One more thing!! An inspired comic starring your favorite, COMMANDER -blam!-ING PALMER [because we know how much our fans LOVEEE her]. Pre-order now and come to our launch party that no one is going to show up to and receive a chance to demo our Halo Mobile spinoff that nobody cares about on a Surface tablet near you" Bleh. Why don't they talk about their next Halo project or at least foreshadow when new information will come out. Why don't they discuss their experience with developing Halo 4, or conduct QA's with the community or interviews with their employees? But NOPE, here's commander palmer and some Halo shit you can buy. Sorry, had to. That was bottled up for a while.

  • Actually 343i is a branch of bungie that split off just to work on halo games. So you are complaining that they are copying themselves...

  • Well, I guess it's not healthy to let something like that fester. I'm not feeling all this 343 hate, but it's best to let it all out.

  • Exactly my feelings as well. Stopped reading them a long time ago. Just checked this one and seems like the bulletins are still empty promises and giant advertisements for things no-one cares about. 343i is trying way to hard to mimic Bungie.

  • 343 Day's been a tradition since 2011. Resistor Armor Mod... yeah they dropped the ball on that one. And Commander Palmer isn't the only main character. Something to note, she wasn't annoying in campaign. That's because Chris Schlerf wrote the campaign. He's also the one who wrote all the comics. Spartan Assault's been out for a while, but they're talking about the Xbox version which has a Flood Survival mode. It's funny what perspectives do. I feel 343i is genuine, and the Bungie Updates are mostly marketing ploys to hype people. Then again, I'm sure 343i'd be doing the same when there isn't an embargo on Halo 5.

Bungie's day has been tradition more than that. LOL! 343 has to copy Bungie because they really have no idea what to do at this point.

  • Perspectives are wonderful aren't they? Also, you're saying this now? 343 Day has been going on since 2011.

  • I know Bungie's day has been happening since 2007, did you even knew that?

  • I actually thought it's been going on longer. I'm pointing that out that it was started in 2011 because you're acting like this is the first time it's happened.

Oh no, I was just stating that 343 copy this from Bungie. I just don't like that studios have to rely on someone else's idea to attract attention instead of doing something really cool. Specially ehn 343 is all like "We want to make our own mark and make us different from Bungie" and still they do stuff Bungie does.

  • The fans liked this stuff, so why is it so bad they're continuing a tradition? It sounds like a good time.

  • It would be fine if they actually continued it well. There are certain aspects that 343i needs to mimic Bungie, like game design, and others where they need to separate themselves. Just like the rest of Microsoft, 343i has had absolutely terrible public relations. Developers post more on Neogaf than they do their own forums. Their forums are also a totalitarian hell hole where mods have absolute control (no, I have never been banned there, so don't throw that strawman of an argument at me). 343i needs to re-evaluate their entire image, while looking to Bungie and the legacy they left for where to move in terms of actual game development. Fact of the matter is though, they will never even compare to Bungie, the same way their Halo game doesn't compare to the previous titles.

  • I wouldn't say they have terrible public relations. Numerous times these past months, I've seen 343 staff take to twitter and engage with the community regarding Halo's current state, and what would be the things that need to be focused on going forward. Some tweets were feedback discussions, where they ask the community for their thoughts; and others were just personal 1-to-1 talks regarding opinions on certain aspects of the game. The community were quite thankful for the opportunity to have these discussions. After every bulletin, when fans have questions about news spoken about in the article, or about things spoken about in the past, 343 makes an effort to answer them. The community has also had multiple opportunities to get online and play with the developers. When Spartan Assault had issues at launch, 343 was very quick to respond to those who were experiencing problems; offering solutions to whoever they could. And with Matchmaking, they've got this whole voting system where the community has a degree of choice on what goes up. Additionally, they're in the thick of it at events, and are always happy to talk with fans and have a good time. They're very down to earth, and approachable. I have my own opinions on Bungie - some good, some bad - but I won't compare the two. I will say I think that the people at 343 seem like genuine, sound, people; I also would say some aspects of Halo 4 I prefer over other titles in the series.
