There isn't a trick to it. Just as there isn't a trick to getting used to PC mouse/keyboard controls.
Just play any game casually, and you'll pick it up in a few days, maybe less.

As a matter of fact, there is a technique that doesn't occur naturally to a PC player when using a mouse that must be learned on a controller to aim fluently. It is strafe-aiming: using your strafe to finely adjust your aim rather than the aiming stick itself when acquiring a target. I have not gotten this technique down, and sorely need to practice it to master controller FPS. So you were wrong. There are tricks.

Effort: that's what this regimen I described is. It's still practice, but is meant to build on foundations in a more targeted manner because I absolutely suck with a controller and have always sucked since GoldenEye.
