Think about what humans would do if we found a brand new planet capable of sustaining life and has a large amount of resources. Don't know? Then let me ask you this. What did we do to Native Americans?

Actually it would be easier for a space faring race to live in space instead of colonizing planets; using system asteroid belts, small uninhabited moons and planets and Oort clouds for resources . Spending time to get resources out of deep gravity wells wouldn't be worth the trouble. Coring large asteroids within our own belt and converting them would provide plenty of space for literally trillions of people, give those suckers a spin and you got your self some artificial gravity, protection from stellar radiation. Mercury would be a near limitless source of rare metals, minerals, and heavier elements. Our own moon along with a number of Jupiters would probably be a good source of water. I'll stop short of a wall of text, here.

  • Look I've spotted an intelligent person on bnet, that's a first!

  • Well, I wouldn't say I'm more intelligent than the average person. I just enjoy thinking about this sort of stuff(physics, engineering, etc.). Actually, between you, me, and everyone else on this forum "common sense wise" I'm more than a little retarded.

  • That is actually a very genius idea. But my point still stands. Humans would wipe out another race why wouldn't they do the same.

  • My main point, before i got off track(sorry about that), was that it wouldn't be worth the trouble. They could much more easily get resources from other systems belts, rocky moons, Oort clouds than have to -blam!- around with restless natives. Now say we stumble into a system that is already claimed, well that may be a different matter entirely.

  • We screwed them over. Keep in mind that this was only a couple hundred years after the freaking Dark Ages, though. Any spacefaring race similar to humanity would be too progressive to do such a thing by the time that they could travel between stars.

  • by the time we would find that we would have gained FTL travel. We won't need the resources when there are easier uninhabited planets to take from. We also won't go there to colonize the planet if we found radio waves from another species telling us they are there.
