Yes.
Why? Because there's a lot of fat in there to be cut. We are building tanks the army doesn't want. We are spending buckoo on air conditioned tents in Afghanistan. Just the other day there was a newspaper article talking about how tax payers are paying for triple digit homes for senior brass.
Even if there wasn't we are spending more on our military than most other nations combined.

I'd say a shuffling of the funds is more appropriate than an overall cutting (although I agree that some cutting should be done along with every other aspect of our government).

Do my eyes deceive me? METHEW FINALLY MADE A COMPETENT THOUGHT! Unbelievable! *Stands up, claps, and cries in disbelief while shaking his head*

We spend more money on our military because there are more people trying to kill us compared to, say, South Africa.
-
600 billion dollars worth of threats in a year. Yep, sure need those trident nuclear missiles on those submarines. And you definitely need 15 000 aircraft. Who else is supposed to stop the alien invasion?
-
Glad to see my money is being well spent. Remind me again of how Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat to the US again?

I'm never said that I agree with every military campaign in recent memory. However, you can't ignore a world leader who's taking potshots at Japan with missiles (that being N. Korea) and the psychos who want to see all of us infidels burn in hell. Especially when they kill thousands of New Yorkers.
However, you can't ignore a world leader who's taking potshots at Japan with missiles (that being N. Korea) and the psychos who want to see all of us infidels burn in hell. Especially when they kill thousands of New Yorkers.
I don't see either of them being a justification for the huge amount we spend. Not to mention that the last problem isn't a problem to be solved with conventional warfare.
Not to mention that the last problem isn't a problem to be solved with conventional warfare.
Conventional troops are needed when the goal is to eradicate a large insurgent presence, provide security, train indigenous forces, and everything else associated with nation-building; which is what was needed in Afghanistan and Iraq. You're right that conventional warfare is not the only facet in the solution to the overwhelming problem of terrorism, but they do have a purpose in some instances.
We are spending buckoo on air conditioned tents in Afghanistan
What do you suggest, cut the A/C and let the troops suffer heat stroke?
-
What do you suggest, cut the A/C and let the troops suffer heat stroke?
Implying that the troops out doing the grunt work don't have to go without a/c?
-
I must be failing to understand what you suggest.
-
That we have to a/c the troops lest they get heatstroke is silly because as we speak there are troops out there who are risking heatstroke while they do their jobs.

Okay, as I thought, the logic is daft.
