Runescape has come a long way since it's golden days on the top of the MMO chain. While it's fallen out of the top spot in the world of MMOs it's never really been inactive or anything, it still has millions of users every day. But come the 22nd, it's probably going to claw it's way back up to the top with the launch of Runescape 3. Or...perhaps it won't. One of the big pulls of Runescape was that it was not a graphically demanding whatsoever. The HTML5 client makes that not so anymore. Though the JAVA version of the game will still be the main version of the game for a long time to come until HTML5 is fully realized.
All the footage of the game IS the actual game, it's not any pre rendered business. The most noticeable thing that sets modern Runescape apart from it's earlier days (and old-school 2007 incarnation of it's servers that run parallel to the game for nostalgic-players) is definitely the graphics.
The other big ticket item for Runescape 3 is the new music engine. For the longest time Runescape had simple MIDI music, not anymore though. All the tracks will be fully orchestrated by a full orchestra. The music is set to be as good, if not better, than current AAA titles on the market. Anyone else really excited for it?

I don't like RS all that much anymore because it does all the stuff now that used to set it apart from other MMOs back in the day. Still a browser game though, no dealing with client bs. Got to give them that. I'll check out RS3 when it launches.
