What if I am a new player and just got on after one of these said events?

What about it?

Well the game would have changed. I would have missed that whole thing.

Bungie has stated multiple times that Destiny will be an evolving universe. Joining right after one of these events would be the same as joining a few months into the game. Things would have changed since launch.

Having something that huge like a new enemy to the mix would ruin experiences for players who join in later. They did say it was evolving but they didn't say how. Maybe it evolved in private areas but public areas I don't really think so.
Having something that huge like a new enemy to the mix would ruin experiences for players who join in later.
I fail to see how that would ruin the experience at all. An entire universe can't evolve to a select group of people either. If an aspect of the game is going to change, it's going to change for everyone. Not just the people who were present during the change.

People didn't get to experience it without the enemy. There could be other things too. Maybe a building falls. Things that change from the original experience aren't always the greatest things. Maybe someone wanted to play the game without that enemy. Maybe someone wanted to explore that building.

No game that is supported post-launch functions like that. If a game has map packs, you never got to experience the game pre-map pack. If a game adds new playable characters (LoL), you never got to experience the game before those characters were added. In an evolving universe like Destiny, if you're not there for the entire ride, you're going to miss everything up until the point that you joined.
-
We don't know how evolving the world is. It could be in only private areas. Which would make this whole kerfuffle pointless. We don't know.
-
But you can't evolve a universe within just the private areas. If you're going to change the game's universe, it has to apply EVERYWHERE. Public and Private areas alike.

I'm sure you can. They said they are doing all their cinematic sequences in private areas. You can have change in private areas so it doesn't butcher the game for people who join later. Public areas for all we know could only be really small or really big. Like I said we don't know.
