What if the battle is broken into 12 man instances with a ticker on-screen showing the status of other parts of the assault? A team here, fighting on the ground, a team dropping into he fallen ship, and so on. The game will be instancing this types of events all the time, I don't think that it will be too demanding if its only a series of split up public events set to happen in conjunction with one another.
