I immediately tried blotting it up with a paper towel, but it has become evident to me now hours later that some of it had gotten beneath the keyboard and now my arrow keys in the bottom right corner of my laptop are completely gummed up. This is completely unacceptable, but at this point, I'm not entirely sure how I should proceed.
My room mate suggested popping the keys off my keyboard to get at the gunk beneath, but I imagine that they might not reattach as easily as they come off if I did it incorrectly. I was thinking of trying to wash out the affected area with water, but that also seems like it could have potentially dire consequences.
For reference, my Laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T400, and the keyboard looks exactly like the one pictured in the post.

Keyboards come off easy. Just pull it out, clean it up and put them back in their place.
