I wouldn't really consider WWII to be "modern warfare". While there is certainly times for punching through defenses, generally the current wars are about removing an enemy force from control of an area rather than eliminating them, which is essentially impossible. A very literal example of this is the Second Battle of Fallujah where allied forces surrounded the city, bombarded it for weeks, and then methodically went through every room of every building, sweeping through the city, killing any men of fighting age that didn't immediately surrender. Great post though.

I should really reword the title as i am confusing you guys, but i am using World War 2 to draw parallels to today. Like i used the gulf war which is indeed modern as an example of how blitzkrieg like warfare carried over to modern American doctrine. I make no references to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. I am speaking in hypothetical really of future wars in a way, that will be fought like that.

Let's hope so; the U.S. has had a very hard time adapting to urban warfare against insurgents. Iraq was a slap to the face. Not that I hope for another war, but we'd do much better against a rogue nation rather than a group of widespread militants.
